I'm planning on graduating from school in the midwest and moving somewhere warmer. My husband and I are interested in North Carolina, preferably Raleigh or Charlotte (we need to be in a decent size city for his work). I know there are plenty of schools in NC and the job market is tight. I was wondering if anyone had any insight on working in these areas (MDA-CRNA relationship, general salary, overall job satisfaction). Any info would be great. Also, has anyone worked for American Anesthesiology or known anyone who has? i noticed they often have job openings. Any info would be great!! Thanks!

MSA is a great program. You start the end of August and by the beginning of November you are in the OR which is a huge benefit over other programs. You get tons of OR experience and get way over the required amount of cases/ OR time. You also get to do most of your clinicals (besides 6 weeks total of rural clinical) within the twin cities so not as much travel as some of the other programs. I've talked to many graduates of MSA and they felt very well prepared starting their jobs as new grads. They also prepare you very well for the boards and have a lot of review built into the program.

Congrats everyone! Saslater as far as good suburbs to look at there are a ton of nice apts. right in st Louis park. Also Plymouth, Golden Valley would be good to look too. My husband lived in the Creekside Apts.In Plymouth a while ago and they were great access (only 5 min to the school and great access to clinical sites) but a little pricey. There were a bunch of apartments right around there too. I can give you my contact info and tell you more info! I had my interview today. It was extremely casual and much more conversational than an interview. Now the wait! :) Good luck to everyone, and I really hope to see you next fall!

Any really surprising questions?

I know you mentioned the interview is very laid back. Is it mostly just basic interview questions? Do they ask a lot of scenario tYpe questions? I get so nervous interviewing so any suggestions for what to prepare for would be helpful!

I saw a thread from last year that people heard about interviews right around Thanksgiving. I'm not feeling all that confident about applying this year. I have very minimal icu experience. Let me know if you hear back about an interview.

Not trying to Put down that population. I've learned a lot that I wouldn't have gotten to experience. I've also gotten punched in the face by a patient and put up with a lot of crap at work that just isn't for me.

I started my nursing career about 16 mOnths ago on a 36 bed unit with tele/ progressive care/ cardiac icu PTs in a large level one trauma center and teaching facility. After about 9 mo of tele patients I was trained in icu patients which was my ultimate goal. However the icu nurses on the floor are the type who "eat their young" and I'm really not liking my new icu coworkers. I also really hate the pt population as an inner city hosPital and commute almost an hour to get to work. I saw openings at a smaller community hospital much closer that has icu openings. I only have a couple months icu experience on my own and in that time occasionally get tele pts as well. Do I suck it up and try tO stay to get more experience or apply for this new position. Really confused and need advice on hOw long to stay! Thanks!

About a week and a half ago I was helping to restrain a pt. About 6 people were holding the pt. Down and he managed to punch me in the face. I did not lose consciousness but went to the er shortly after with headache and dizziness. They didn't do any tests and discharged me quickly. Over the next few days the headaches became unbearable and I was dizzy when not lying totally flat. I also became nauseous. I went to my primary who ran a ct negative for bleeds but said it was post concussion sx. I then went to an occupational med dr to deal with workmans comp. She barely examined me and wrote off my symptoms saying I was ready to go back to work in a few days. I told her I could barely sit up without being dizzy and she said it's better to go back to work. I still have a few days off (coming out of my own pto by state law) but I feel like she's getting me back working before workmans comp pays my out of work time. I work in a level one icu and don't feel safe returning to work which I expressed to this dr but she just blew me off. I'm not sure what to do at this point. My dizziness is a little better but still have a terrible headache and haven't even been able to reAd a book at home. Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

Just got done taking the gre. Didn't get a "great" score. 460 verbal 620 quant. I know it's above the minimum most schools require, but do you think I need to retake it to be competitive? My gpa was 3.85 for science and overall. Thanks for your input!

I realize that I will need the 1 year experience...I was just wondering if there were programs more likely to accept with the minimum 1 year experience as long as I have all the other requirements and have desirable stats in the other areas.

I'm just going to be starting in the CV ICU in January and am looking to possibly start CRNA school for Fall of 2012. That means when I apply I'll only have 6-9 months experience. Does anyone know of schools that are more apt to accept people with minimal experience. My GPA is 3.8, working on GRE and shadow experience. I've known I wanted to be a CRNA forever so I'm just anxious to start school and am willing to move wherever. Thanks!

I'm interested in applying for Case Western for 2012. I'll have minimal CV ICU experience (only about 1 year and half at start of program) but have 3.8 undergrad GPA and am working on GRE. Anyone who has been accepted into case western, would you mind posting your stats? Thanks!

I was interested in one of the MN CRNA programs or the LaCrosse program. I was wondering if anyone who has been accepted into one of these programs would mind sharing their stats (GPA, GRE score, and work experience, any other experience). I currently work in a level 1 trauma center in a CV ICU and have about 1 year work experience there and 1 year Telemetry experience. I was wondering if that will be too soon to apply? Any input would be appreciated! Thanks!

I was wondering for those who recently took the NCLEX, how long it took for MN board of nursing to post results or did you use the quick results service? I took it today, on a Thursday, and was wondering what to expect.

I was interested in Regions Critical Care Immersion Program, and I was wondering if anyone worked there, if they had any idea how many people usually get hired into this program? Is it usually internal applicants? I am a new grad very interested in critical care and I think this is the only program I have heard of in the area hiring straight into critical care.
