NEW GRAD, administering FLU SHOTS for the first time
You will be fine. I believe I work for the same or a similar company. I am also a new grad. I do not aspirate, as this is not required. Also for geriatric and peds patients I bunch up the muscle as not to hit the bone. I also ask the patient to relax his/her arm prior to administration. Most patients say they don't feel a thing :)

Grady Memorial Nurse Extern
I was hired as an extern and was unable to accept the position. I am now working as an RN at Grady

Grady Memorial Nurse Extern
yes the pp was correct about applying online after the extern fair. Yes, the flyer was on the website about a month prior to the summer open house. The open house was in March and the externship started in late June.

Grady Memorial Nurse Extern
The dates of the open house will be posted under the nursing link on the career section of Grady. It is not there yet.

Grady Memorial Nurse Extern
I did not do the externship, however, was offered a position (was unable to accept). However, it is a fabulous opportunity and pretty much one of the few ways to secure employment at Grady upon graduation. Go to the open house with all required information. After submitting your documents, talk with the leaders in your area of interest. Afterwards, follow up with all of the leaders you discussed and the head lady in charge of the program (you will be given his/her contact information at the open house). Good Luck!

Thank you all! That was quick! I guess option 1 is a no brainer, and you are correct, I won't be there forever. I greatly appreciate your advice!

2 ICU Job offers...which is best for CRNA school admissions
Hello! Please help. I have to job offers for ICU's. I am a new graduate nurse and feel very privileged to have these options. Option 1) Level 1 trauma center MICU with good pay. The hospital is a public teaching institution that is known for frequent leadership changes and dissatisfied staff and nurses. However, you get lots of experience and exposure to unique cases in this hospital. A big positive for me is that this position is for day shift, I am NOT a night person. Option 2) A position in the intermediate care intensive care unit at a top private hospital health system with several nationally ranking specialties. This hospital is however, not a trauma center or teaching hospital. This hospital is known in the area as the "best hospital for nurses." Every nurse I know loves this hospital. A negative for this position is that it is on nights and I am NOT a night person. I am truly torn. They both require 2 year contracts. Please help me settle this!

Emory vs Piedmont Hospital for New Grad
thanks for responding so quickly. Yes, you are right it is 5E. Is 5E and intermediate care unit or an intensive care unit? Basically is "intensive care unit" included in the title. I just ask because I really want specific "icu experience" Sorry to bombard you with questions, its just that when HR offered they weren't able to answer any of theses questions for me. Also, are any of the patients in 5E vented or being hemodynamically monitored?

Emory vs Piedmont Hospital for New Grad
I was told that my unit was 5G. I asked HR if that was the final decision and she said yes. I was pretty confused. I hoped to rotate through all of the units as indicated on the website. They are unsure of the start date either 9/26 or 10/10. I'm super confused. Have you already completed the residency? What shifts did you usually work. What is your overall opinion of the hospital? How are the benefits? Thanks!

Emory vs Piedmont Hospital for New Grad
I just received an offer for Piedmont's critical care residency program. I am very excited and have a few questions. As the pp stated, the residency program was cut from 5 to 3 months. What was eliminated? Also, on the website it states that we will rotate through all of the icu's as part of the residency program will this still happen? With the offer I was already assigned a unit, does this mean that I will only get to orient to this unit as opposed to rotating through all of the icu's as listed on the website. Thanks in advance for your response

Turned down job..did I do the right thing?
That is a great idea. However, I hope to take the boards within the next few weeks before the baby is born. If I pass, I will probably have a license within a few weeks after the baby is born, so I think I will just go straight for the RN job. :)

Turned down job..did I do the right thing?
Yes, they definitley knew I was pregnant. However, they did not know how far along I was. The start date was firm and they were unable to be flexible. Thus I declined due to it being within 10 days of my due date

Turned down job..did I do the right thing?
Thank you all for your prompt responses! It really helped solidify my confidence that I made the right choice that will best benefit my career. Yes, we planned to give birth right after graduation to allow time with the baby and time for a job search. I did not want to complicate my first year on the job with a pregnancy and childbirth. I wanted to do the externship for possibly the last few months of school but the start date was much later than anticipated. I have graduated :)..yeah and will next tackle the boards. I want to work as a nurse full time for this hospital and did not want to burn my bridges with the hospital by accepting a role that I know I an unequipped to complete. I emailed the hiring manager and thanked her for the opportunity and reiterated that I will pursue employment opportunities with the hospital after the birth. My ultimate goal is to maintain the professional relationship to benefit my career in the future. I feared that taking the role would violate trust between myself and the hospital because my delivery and baby would complicate the program and I had full knowledge of my due date. Thank you all so much. It is very beneficial to receive unbiased career advise and you all provided that. Thanks!
