  1. How much of the TWU FNP is offered online? I live in Austin so it wouldn't be a problem for me to drive to Houston like once a month. But didn't know if it was more of a hybrid type of program. Thanks!
  2. Thank you so much! This is very helpful. At this point, my thought is to apply to UT Arlington, Texas Tech, and UT El Paso because they have have programs that start in spring semester. If those don't pan out, there's alot more options for fall semester start programs. Starting spring 2016 would be my first choice, but we will just have to see.
  3. I should've clarified better..you're exactly right. I don't mind monthly or bimonthly campus visits. Just need mostly online as I would like to continue to work at least part-time. I understand that no good degree will be cheap...I just want to be conservative in not adding more loan debt to my load than necessary. I am a former military spouse, however we have settled in central TX for the foreseeable future. Just wondered if anyone had specific school recommendations either here in TX or elsewhere. Thank you!
  4. That's interesting! I hadn't heard that before since I've had coworkers go the FNP route after just L&D experience, but I will definitely add that to my list of questions to ask. Thank you!
  5. I've started researching mostly online FNP programs hoping to start in January 2016. I have worked as an L&D RN since I graduated with my BSN in 2013. Ideally I would love to work in a clinic setting working with OB or fertility assistance patients. However I don't want to limit myself too much by specializing in women's health at this point either. 1. Must be online 2. Must be affordable but still have a good reputation 3. Have clinical spots assigned in the central TX area 4. 18mo-2yr program I've looked a bit into Texas State University but would love to hear any advice about other programs. Thanks in advance!
  6. So I graduate in December and about a year afterwards we will be relocating to another base. If we have the options to put in a few different places, does anyone have experience about what areas of the country have a greater shortage than others? By the time we move I will hopefully have a year of experience in a local hospital.
  7. Yes VESNIP is only open to certain schools including mine, but unfortunately I didn't get in. Yes I'm doing my preceptorship at Gateway and would love to get a job here after graduating in Dec. I'll definitely look at Blanchfield at Ft. Campbell as well. I love APSU...great program and teachers. Know alot of people going through the RODP program and have heard nothing but positive things.
  8. I am a first semester senior in nursing school at Austin Peay University and graduate this December. I am looking for a summer job or nurse externship position for this summer and PRN for the fall. So far I've heard of St. Thomas/Baptist nurse extern program and Care Partner program at Northcrest. Ideally I'd love to get a job at Gateway Hospital since I live so close but am open to anything. Do any of you have any advice or other places to try?
  9. Sorry for my slow reply...just saw your post. My husband and I are coming down this week and will be stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood through Jan. '11. I am taking A&P at the Truman Center (Lincoln University) and doing the CNA certification at the Waynesville Career Center. Are you still there? Taking any classes?
  10. one more thing....do you have to wait until you have your RN to start any sort of medical type job? I remember hearing something about being able to get a job after your first semester of nursing school.
  11. Thanks...you were so helpful! I'm not sure where we'll be living, although it'll prolly be temporary duty housing....we could be there anywhere from 6-12 mo. while he's in MP school. Got to learn all the right acronyms. =) I'm really trying to keep my costs as long as possible so I wouldn't mind driving a bit if it was a huge difference in price. It's awesome to be able to talk to a person who lives out there.
  12. Hey everyone! I'm new to this forum but excited that hopefully I'll "meet" someone to answer my millions of questions. So first off, a bit about me. I'm just starting out with all my nursing and extra science classes although I have all my general education classes finished. In June 2010, I'm marry my love who is graduating from West Point and will first be stationed in Ft. Leonard Wood for 6-12 months. Does anyone know of a good school close by there? Also I'm trying to determine the difference between going for my associate's or bachelor's degree right off. Should I focus on my RN certification for right now so I can start working and maybe do an online RN-BSN program later? My fiance and I are also considering taking the opportunity to move to Italy or Germany as well. The one thing I'm concerned about is my ability to finish up my degree as I'll probably have about one or two semesters to go by the time we would move over there. Does anyone have any information about that sort of thing? Does the military have any special programs? Well I guess that's all for now. Any insight anyone might have would be awesome! Thanks!
