  1. I have a question that I'm having trouble answering. What is the significance of a women being 5 cm dilated; 80% effaced; and -1 station? My understanding is that she is in the first stage of labor and in the active phase. The active phase (according to my book) is when she is 4 or more cm dilated and 80% or more effaced. However, she is at a -1 station, which is where I'm getting confused. Also, her contractions are 3 minute frequencies with 60 duration. They are sharp and "biting" at peak and slight pink show is present. She is 40 weeks. Fundal height is 36 cm and fetus is palpable in ROA position. It gives no information about ROM. Is anyone able to help me understand this? Thanks!
