  1. I graduated in July and have tried to get a job in a hospital but unfortunately I was not getting any call backs. I just accepted a job at a ambulatory surgery center and was so excited to start. Well after the 1st week I hate it. Working M-F is completely disrupting my family life and I think a 12 hr shift would be so much better for me. I have reached out to several nurses to help get my foot in the door for a hospital job.... but not sure what to do. My gut tells me this job is just not for me. I just can't quit without another job and I dont feel like it would be very professional to quit after just a few weeks. any advice from others especially working mothers with young children. I am so sad and stressed. Rae
  2. I graduated from nursing school next week and I am finishing up my clincial evaluation paper for a preceptorship I had in the OR. One of the paragraphs has to do with specific standards of practice for OR... I can't seem to find these on AORN. Is there anywhere else I can look? I also have to write about a nurse theorist r/t OR nursing. Thanks for any guidance. Rae
  3. I have posted before and got some wonderful advice so I thought I would try again. I will get by BSN next month and am currently doing a perceptorship in the OR-- my choice. I now have to do a teaching project specific to the OR for the staff. It basically will just be a handout that I will put in their mailboxes. Anyway, since I am new to the OR and am still a student, I am unsure what to do it on. My instructor suggested doing something on recycling in the OR. I have noticed that there is a lot of trash/supplies that can be recycled. What do the OR nurses on this board think about this topic? Would it be a good or do you have other suggestions? The only thing that worries me is I need 5 sources and recycling in the OR or a "green" OR is not that common so sources are slim. Any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated. MRW
  4. Thank you for the tips. It was very helpful in jumpstarting my contract. I appreciate it so much.
  5. I am in my final 7 wks of nursing school!!!! I start my preceptorship/internship tomorrow in the the OR and I am very excited. I have to give my instructor 5 Smart goals specific to the OR for the following categories: communication/documentation, decision making/problem solving, and roles/responsibilities. I understand what smart goals are but I have no idea what to give her since I have never worked in the OR prior to this. Can someone lead me the right direction and give me some ideas to get me started. Thanks
  6. I hate this class and have no idea what I am doing. It is an online class and today I need to post a "fact" that I have learned while on clinicals to explain how I support that fact. I have no clue what to post. Uggh. What do you think they are looking for? rae
  7. Hi, I have a teaching project due in a few days. The topic I have been assigned is pneumonia. Part of this assignment is for me to write up a a few pages of how would go about teaching my patient about pneumonia. I have never done a written teaching project before so I have no clue on how to write this up. Can someone please help me. Rae
