  1. Thank You! I will be working Mon-Fri 8a-5p.
  2. 25-32$/hr would be great! Although I haven't ran across anyone who started off making that much as a new grad here in South FL. It's crazy how the pay rate various depending on your area, just doesn't make sense.
  3. I have asked around and it seems like the going rate for a new grad RN in Florida is between $21-23/hr. I guess what they are offering me is right around the ballpark, especially considering that it is a surgery center and not a hospital where pay would be a bit more.
  4. Hi all, just curious. I was finally offered a position as an OR/Recovery Room nurse at a cosmetic surgery center in south FL. The pay rate for a new grad RN is 20/hr. I have heard many comments about the low pay rate in FL, especially for new grads. Is this pay rate too low?
  5. Update: I finally got my 1st interview today at a cosmetic surgery center for the position of OR/recovery room RN. I'm happy to say that I received an offer for employment and I accepted it! It's bitter sweet I guess. It isn't the hospital position I was hoping for but beggars can't be choosers. Also, the pay is pretty low ($20/hr) even for a new RN in Florida. Just wanted to give you all an update and thank you once again for all of your comments. :-)
  6. I'm going to give that a try. Thanks so much!
  7. Thank you for all of your comments, I really appreciate the feedback! I will keep all of your responses in mind while I continue my job search. God Bless!
  8. Thanks, I will definitely look into that.
  9. I live in South Florida as well. Yeah, seems like the only ones getting jobs are the ones who have connections.
  10. I see what you are saying. I really wish I could but moving is not an option for me. Me and my fiance just purchased our home about 2 yrs ago and his job is here in Florida. He is really well established there and has been there for years.
  11. Hi everyone, I am an extremely frustrated new grad RN! I graduated back in Dec 2013 and passed the boards April 2014. I have been job hunting ever since and nothing yet. I have applied to hundreds of ads including hospitals, home health agencies, long-term care facilities and haven't even been called for 1 interview. Everyone wants at least 2-3 years of nursing experience but how can a new grad get experience when no one will give us a chance. I have called HR many times and have even dropped by and they all just kinda brush me off and tell me the same thing "if we are interested we will call you." Many will flat out tell me "sorry, we don't hire new grads". I am so disappointed with the way the job market is treating us. Where is the support for new grads? I have also tried applying to two different new grad programs but unfortunately never received a call back. These new grad programs are very competitive and are only available a couple of times a year here in Florida, plus only a few hospitals participate. Is anyone having the same issue and what advice if any do you have for new grads looking for employment?
  12. Well, looks like the PVT is still alive and well! I got my results this morning and I passed! Finally an RN!
  13. Took the NCLEX this morning and went home and tried the PVT 1 hour later. I'm happy to say that I got the "good pop up" but I'm not going to celebrate as of yet. As soon as I get my results, I will take the poll and post whether or not the PVT worked for me.
  14. How many hours a day do you put into studying? I'm expecting it to consume my entire life until I'm done. If that is the case, I'm prepared to do what it takes. I just want to get an idea of what I'm in for.
  15. Much thanks and gratitude to all of you who have posted and continue to post. Kudos to allnurses.com for giving all of us a place to come together and support one another.
  16. My study tactics have definitely veered towards a different direction after reading all of these posts. lol Thanks!
  17. My study tactics have definitely veered a different direction after reading all of these posts. lol Thanks!
  18. Yikes! Well, I guess it's expected. As a nurse, your dealing with human beings so there's not much room for errors. They want to make sure you know your stuff!
  19. Wow, thank you so much for the extensive insight! It's extremely helpful to hear what a nursing student such as yourself, with first hand experience has gone through. Your a true fighter! You give hope to so many others who have some type of illness or disability. I will definitely take the advice you have provided me and use it to my advantage. I now know what to expect and it's given me some peace of mind. Hopefully, this will help many other upcoming nursing students get some peace of mind as well. Best wishes and good luck on your journey!
  20. Really? I was totally expecting to get material that required us to use a lot of the science pre-req content that we learned. Nursing school seems to go a different direction than I expected. Thank you so much for your advise. I will definitely look into purchasing some of those NCLEX review books and CD's. Omg, I hear ya! I have heard horror stories about how grueling nursing school is. How much time do you find yourself studying and reviewing? Also, I have heard of students getting kicked out for getting a grade below 76%! It's freaking me out! Is this true?
  21. I am an upcoming nursing student that just got accepted into the full time R.N. program for spring 2012. I'm super excited but nervous at the same time. I have heard that nursing school is difficult so I want to make sure that I'm as prepared as possible. I finished all of my pre-reqs about 3 years ago, so naturally, I have forgotten a lot of the content. For the core nursing classes, will I need to brush up on my Anatomy & Physiology, Chemistry, Microbiology, etc? Also, would it be a good idea to study medical terms as well? Any feedback will be much appreciated.
  22. Coincidentally, I ran into a nurse who graduated from City College when I went to get my physical for school today. As she was drawing my blood, I asked her out of curiosity what school she graduated from. When she said "City College" I couldn't beleive it! It was music to my ears. She said that she had no problems getting a job or transferring credits for her BSN, which she is currently working on. This is good news for us! Looks like it's safe for you to register to City College.
