  1. refer the previous responses....they are all good feedback!!!!
  2. I am not sure the story about hospice, insurance reimbursement or formulary. However, based on your description of the wound, despite that it was a skin graft site, I would certainly start the treatment with topical antibiotics ointment (ex, bactroban, for infection reason) and alginate (for drainage issue), adding on it, change daily for sure. Once the infection is under controlled, and we can deal with slough. however, I do think this patient needs to see wound care doctor. Maybe an IV antibiotic with wound culture would help from inside out as well.
  3. Thank you, Spiritualrn, for your input and feedback. you certainly gave me a strong shot while I am looking for WOC education programs. I am gonna go with distance learning for sure but now in between, Emory Univeristy and webWOC Nursing education program based in Minneapolis, MN. Do you think the school would make a difference on my professional network and job search? The pros for Emory are basically because it is well known and they offer split program, study at home, go on-site for a week, and back home to do clinical. Cons are cost more than webWOC, taking all expenses into consideration, air fare, hotel, missing work, more child care support etc. The pros for webWOC is that I can always study at home, finish clinical in my area, never have to fly out for on-site. Cons are I did not hear any nurses completed the program from here, which made me scared...(sorry to say, seemed not a well-known program, even it is listed as accredited program)... Anyone can share their input with me???thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. we no longer use santyl in hospital due to high cost (and higher cost as they continue raising price)...however, I haven't noticed lots of benefits from medihoney as a debrider...but keeping wounds moist...
  5. we are using drawtex for wounds with copious drainage and also use for a bit deeper wound to wick out drainage...it has been working well!!!we like it!!!
  6. been researching on this topic and google directs me here. thank you all for sharing. I am currently in wound care at an acute hospital setting, and going on 3rd year. Love the wounds and learning everyday. everyday I wake up, I am grateful that I am blessed that I am doing what I love and love what I am doing. However, as a mom, still have to be practical according to financial issue. Been wondering about tuition and salary/wage (after certified), which one is the better investment, relatively? I am an RN, MSN, med-surg for more than 5 years. thank you all again!!!!!!
  7. thank you, classicdame! I am working on what you suggested!!researching the structure! thank you again!
  8. Hi, dear all: any advice? will they ask any specific question at government-level agency? or it will just be like other interviews? Thank you very much!!
  9. dear, first thank you for your response~May I have one more question for you all? How about working at a county health department as an RN? sitting in TB clinic? do not know the exact pay (however, the range is 3700-4200/month) yet till next week. So between the offer #1 and thie offer #3(county health department), which one now? Thank you!! never been counfused like this before.--sincerely,
  10. here comes my third offer...and make me more confused now....
  11. but I am grateful to have here to talk about it...
  12. no chance....I just moved here and know nobody...
  13. any one has worked for county health department before? how's the work over there? is it simliar to home care?
  14. do you all think that first offer provides a fair pay? just curious...thanks~
  15. thank you all! You all must know that i have been waiting for responses...i really appreciated that all of you jumpled in and gave me some advices. As you all suggested, I accepted the first offer (3 12-hour shifts) and I will see how I adjust myself from there!!!! Besides, I was hoping to have yearly salary more than 50,000 to have a good mortgage though. anyway, again, love you all!!!my lovely nurse friends~
  16. Thank you, moderator. I think I will just sleep on it and make decision later on! you definitely make good points out of this. I do have a baby and would love to spend more time with her. Thank you again!!!
  17. Background: RN, SNF experience less than 1 year. Offer 1: SNF, RN position, 12-hour shift on Tue, Wed, and Thurs, $26/hr, no 401K. driving 30-40 mins, but we are thinking to buy a house soon. Offer 2: home care, RN positions, monday to friday, salary starting from $50,000, 401K. which one would you take??? Please help me!!!I need advice from you~~~ Sincerely,
  18. I am thinking of wearing a typical suit with keen-high skirt (black with you-cannot-even-see white stripe), black hosiery and black leather boots (0.5" heel). Thank you!!!
  19. how about black lether boots? no time to puchase another pair of dress shoes today....too busy with the baby..:)thank you
  20. thank you for the response. Quite getting there~ And as I understand from the internet, individuals who are entitle Medicaid now can chose where and how they receive the medical care. For example, in the nursing home or in their private home. Here is another quesiton though: How is "community-based alternative" different from home health? Or these two are just under different reimbursement system for LTC? Thank you!!
  21. I think you are right and I will take your suggestion! Suit for an interview. A suit would never be bad for an interview. Rather choose dress-up!--thank you again!!!
  22. here is my update. i still chose to do the RN refresher and that took me 2 months to complete the lecture and clinicals (meanwhile, we were relocating to TX). I just got the temporary license yesterday (you can always check online and it will provide you the updated info). I started to look for job and will have an interview tomorrow!!! thank you all for the precious advice!!
  23. hi, I am gonna have an interview tomorrow at a long-term care facility (they call community-based alternative though, but I assume I will still be working with people with chronic conditions) The Q is: Can I wear scrub for an interview like this? Will I lose the opportunity from the first impression? HELP ME!!!!THANK YOU!!!!
  24. I am kind of trying to sort out the differences between "community-based alternative" and "nursing home". Community-based is the one de-institutionalized. Nursing home is the more like living in a facility. However, what the community-based alternative would look like? and what Rn can do over there? Thank you very much!!! Chou
  25. hi, all TX RN nurses: How are you? As i am in the RN refresher course, I have to look for a site to do 80-hour clinical practice. An RN around dallas area would be wonderful. My preference is skilled nursing facility but still open to any one if available. I had 6-month experience in long-term care facility till 2004 and went back to school/ research till now. I will be relocating to dallas. So, I need to transfer the RN license. Any TX RN would like to take me as a "student"? My strength is fast-learner, dedication, caring and easy-going. I am not sure if it is uncommon to post here looking for a preceptor....but i will just try. If it is too difficult to find one preceptor when i am new in TX. Please let me know if you can help me and I will appreciate your help!!! Sincerely,
