  1. thanks a lot... canada keeps changing its rules so i might as well go have my credentials assessed and take whatever i need to...
  2. that's what i heard about International RNs who came here and had a license the fast way. i am just confused with the delegations of work among RNs and LPNs here, considering that we don't have LPNs in the Phils. seems like RNs back home have the same job as LPNs here. when i apply for LPN here, will they do the same assessment as SEC? i really hate the part when they ask you to demonstrate in front of a panel (if that's really how SEC is done)... and will they accept my academic ielts if it's already a year old? thanks so much....
  3. ok thanks a lot... i don't mind taking courses because i believe i can learn a lot from it, considering that our standards are way too different from here. i was just wondering if the assessment for LPN is the same as the SEC for RN, where you take exams, do return demos, etc.... or will they just review your credentials and identify what courses to take? jamby, im here in edmonton, alberta.. i know a lot of Phil RNs working here as LPNs and I would as well try...
  4. im in alberta with a work permit. the employer may allow me to study and challenge the LPN exam whenever possible.. if ever, will they still require me to take an assessment exam? or just by the credentials i have? taking a course is not a problem as long as it won't hurt me financially...
  5. hello. i am an RN in the Phils and i came here in Canada to work as a nursing assistant. there are so many restrictions being a contract worker under a low skilled position so im planning to apply here in canada as an LPN. many are encouraging me to apply as RN instead, however, canada is very strict on international nurses. u have to undergo a assessment thru written exam, panel interviews, and return demonstrations before they will require you to take some courses. once u finished the course, that's the time u can take the RN exam... it just occurred to me that LPN might be easier and more convinient for me. i was just hoping they will not require me to take some courses and allow me to take the exam directly. does anyone has an idea about this? thanks a lot..,
  6. hello.. i just came to canada as a foreign worker under low skilled program. i am a nurse in the philippines and i am wondering if i can use my BSN course to apply in alberta sa LPN. if so, do i need to take a course before i take the licensure exam? because that's what makes it complicated when i apply as RN. i was thinking to be an LPN for the meantime then upgrade to RN once i have my application for PR approved. thanks a lot...
  7. thanks a lot... well at least TESDA is now removing some LPN schools by not granting their renewal for license to operate. they want to change such course to Health Care instead. it's a 6 months course and is a lot different from LPN/LVN.
  8. some LPN school in the Philippines offer it 2 years, some offer it 1 year. LPN graduates here can gain experience not as Practical Nurses but as Nursing assistants. i know some hospitals hire LPN graduates to work as Nursing attendants but their practice is very limited. they will not be allowed to administer meds, etc... do u know of anyone who can help LPN graduates from the pHilippines apply for canada.... or other countries like New Zealand or Australia...
  9. hi.. i don't think you can turn ur LPN to RN since LPN is under TESDA while RN is under CHED. LPN is not accredited here in the PHilippines that's why most LPN graduates here have no choice but to look for jobs outside the country... besides, the philippine nurses association is totally against LPNs here... i know some who finished LPN here then later on decided to continue with BSN. however, they had to take the subjects again since the school did not credit her units from the LPN school she graduated from...
  10. hello... i'm a new member of this group but i have been reading a lot of topics here and i find them really helpful.. im a filipina nurse who practiced my profession as a volunteer in one of the hospitals in the city where i live.. i received a lot of discouragements from friends and relatives outside the country because they don't see the point why i need to volunteer since i am already licensed.. after a year of volunteering, i decided to look for a job within the city such as staff nurse or clinical instructor but failed since they claim that i lack experience... i was offered a job in one of the technical school offering practical nursing, which i gladly accepted.. at first, i really don't know the difference between RN and LPN until i made some research. i enjoyed teaching since many of my students appreciated the way i teach... i'm now working there as a full time instructor but a little worried because LPN is not a course accredited here in the Philippines.. im aware that students who are US immigrants or Green Card holder have more chance of being hired in the USA. however, we have students who are Filipino citizens and wishes to work abroad but im not really sure if they can work in the USA.. i tried asking friends in other countries like Canada, Australia, Saudi, and New Zealand but they are also not certain whether these country will accept LPN graduates in the Phils... i tried discussing this with the admin of the school but they said that they are confident that these students have possibility going abroad since the school is following all the requirements of the TESDA (an authority that accredits short courses) and the state where they will be applying... kindly please help me sort things out.. if you have any idea on how to work on this, maybe we better improve, change the course, or not, close the school... thanks...
