It was convenient for me. A friend had used Chancellor and her books were about 3/4" thick, plus they are just a bunch of papers stapled together. I looked online at Excelsior's guidelines, okay at this point you register for your class, then buy your books and there were alot of extra books that you needed. it fell under suggested books also. So I contacted TCN they met with me and showed me the modules. So yes I bought them. I did not have the luxury of being able to go to school everyday, I have to work, I am the breadwinner in our family. And my payments weren't but 125.00 a month. I studied at my own pace, I didn't have to worry about any papers that might be due tomorrow, or pop test. I read the material took the practice test (including the ones Excelsior offers) and took my Main Test. Then started on my next one. I tried to take a test every two weeks and did at first then when I got into the nursing part I took one a month. So if you go to a traditional classroom, you can either fail out, or drop out or pass, with TCN/Excelsior I took test passed test, and didn't have to worry about failing out or dropping out. If I didnt feel like studying that day I didn't how many times can you not show up for class? It just worked for me.

I for one used The College Network program. I did my investigation and by the time I bought all the books that I was going to need per class, and believe me there were several courses that you needed as many as eight books plus expense of mailing them, so it all adds up. Each course gives you a list of suggested reading for the course. Which one book that you need, might be for just two chapters that they want you to read. So I chose TCN, and yes it cost me. It was going to cost me one way or the other. I found with TCN all the subject material was covered in the course module. A co worker used Chancellor. She ended up using all of my books for there was so much more in the module I had from TCN than what was in Chancellors. I am now using TCN to finish my BSN. Of course my employer paid for my degree, which they were glad to do since at home study allowed me to work and attain my degree. Mahaley
