  1. Hello! I'm currently looking into various LVN programs in SoCal (mainly around the Los Angeles area) and have narrowed my choices down to Concorde Career College in North Hollywood and West Coast Ultrasound Institute in Beverly Hills. Has anyone had any experience with these colleges? I've found very little on Concorde's NoHo campus and nothing on WCUI's LVN program. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also, for the N-CLEX pass rates... Concorde (North Hollywood): 2007 92% (36) 2008 84% (75) 2009 77% (75) 2010 80% (99) WCUI (Beverly Hills): 2008 53% (19) 2009 71% (14) 2010 89% (28) WCUI's pass rates seem to be improving but should I still be wary? Also, should I be concerned that the amount of students taking the test is so few? I'm still planning on visiting both campuses to get a feel for the place. But I'd also like your input. (: I'd really love your advice. Please feel free to suggest any other programs as well! (Though at the moment getting my LVN at a CC or ROP is not an option...) Thank you in advance! :redpinkhe
  2. Hello! I'm currently looking into various options to becoming a nurse. My ultimate goal would be to get a BSN in nursing. However, I live in SoCal and from what I hear, getting into nursing programs here is rather difficult (as it is in many other places as well.) I have sorted out my various options in terms of how to obtain my BSN but I'm not sure which is the best option. If you can give me your two cents on what you think I should undergo I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks! So here they are: 1) Take my pre-reqs at a CC and then transfer into a BSN program at a Cal State or private uni. Issues: I've heard getting into these BSN programs is really difficult as only a certain number of students are accepted. While I do intend to excel in my pre-reqs, I'm really worried about not getting in. What do I do then? 2) Get my ADN at a CC then take an RN-BSN program. Issues: How difficult is it to get into an ADN program? How difficult is it to get into an RN-BSN program? I really like this option but I'm really mostly worried about the difficulty of getting into an ADN program. 3) Take as many classes that can transfer at a CC and then attend West Coast University. Issues: I like the fact that there's no waiting list for WCU so I know if I act fast, I'll be fine and get my BSN for sure! I'm just worried about the fact that WCU is ACICS accredited, not WASC accredited. Maybe one day I'd like to get my MSN... But in that case, my courses won't transfer! ): 4) Take an LVN program and then take an LVN-RN program. Issues: Is this cost/time effective? How difficult is it to get into these programs? (I haven't really looked into this that much. I just decided that this is a possible option today.) Basically, I'd really like to get my BSN in as little time possible. I wouldn't want to be taking all these pre-reqs only to find out that I won't get anywhere. I'm continuing to research into these various options but I'd really appreciate it if I can get some insight. I apologize for the long post. What do you think the best route would be? Thank you so much in advance~
  3. I apologize for the extremely late reply! I was on vacation with my family and there was no internet~! But thank you so much atticus27 and H0pefulStdnt. I'll definitely talk to my CCE coordinator if the need arises. It seems like a really amazing program and I'm quite excited, though my interview is still about a month away! Just one last question. Are the Orientation days consecutive? I know I read on the site it's usually on weekends, but it's a 3-day thing so does that mean it's Saturday, Sunday, and then a Saturday/Sunday the following week? Or did they mean Friday? I'm just a little concerned about that since my classes on Friday don't end until around 2 and I don't want to miss Orientation (because that means I can't get in the program!) Thank you!
  4. I know this is a pretty old topic but I see there are new posts... so I have a question for those that have volunteered. It really does sound like a great opportunity and would definitely help me when I apply to transfer into the Nursing program at my university for my junior year (I'm an incoming freshman right now.) However, on the website it says that we must serve a minimum of one, four-hour shift each week. Would you happen to know if that is strictly enforced? Would I be able to do a double shift one week to make up for my absence? I'd really like to partake in this but I'm just a little concerned because during the holidays I may not be in the area since my hometown is about an hour away from the university... Thanks in advance!
  5. O2BSN2B :: To be honest, UCI's website isn't all that helpful. Perhaps I'm just terrible at navigating the site but I can't find the exact information I'm looking for. I did check their School of Nursing's site and the application to apply to their nursing program is for 2008! (Although I believe that's for transfer applicants, I'm not entirely sure.) In my AP English Literature & Composition class we've also been working on writing our college application essays and consistently turning them in for feedback so I believe I can, at the very least, write a semi-decent essay. As far as volunteering goes, I've volunteered over 50 hours at my local hospital. I know that isn't a significant amount compared to others, but I am continuously working on it. Right now though I'm volunteering at a dental office because the negative attitude and frequent "don't ever become a nurse" talks from the staff there are a real letdown. I'm planning on volunteering at a different hospital some time in the near future though so I can get back to the nursing "field." I'll definitely look into Sacramento though. ^^ I wasn't really trying to downtalk community colleges but I know that my parents would be unsupportive if I proposed the idea. Besides, I'm worried about transferring considering that may be a rather difficult process as well. Either way, I'll continue to pray I can get in. As far as I know, my background is probably equivalent to the hundreds, even thousands of others that are applying for the same spot.
  6. Thanks for your input! I'll be sure to call UCI sometime soon. I was just wondering if anybody had some more input here in regards to the major, etc. Thanks though~ As for googling for other nursing schools, I have tried that, but I was wondering if there were any recommendations since I know that not all colleges that offer BSN programs are exactly "worthwhile" in a sense. Hehe, thanks for introducing me to the lmgtfy site though. (: I'm definitely going to put that to use.
  7. Hello! This is my first post here... I apologize for the bombardment of questions and if I am doing this wrong. 1) I am a high school senior intent on one day becoming a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. I'm in the process of applying to various schools and I noticed that UCI offers a "Nursing Science" major whereas UCLA offers a "Nursing" major. Are there any substantial differences between the two? Will I still be able to take the N-CLEX and become an RN if I go to UCI and major in Nursing Science or is that something completely different from a BSN, etc.? 2) How demanding is the coursework in nursing? I am also very interested in Japanese and would love to take it up as a minor. Do you think this would be at all possible? Along with that... I hope to one day study abroad in Japan. Would I be capable of doing so as a nursing (or nursing science, I guess) major? 3) Can anybody suggest more colleges in California so that I may first become an RN? (I would prefer not to go to a community college though!) I am currently aspiring to go to UCLA although they are extremely competitive. In that regard, I want to apply to various other colleges that can offer me the proper education. While I have compiled a list, I feel as if it is a little small... And that some of the colleges are not as prestigious as I would like them to be. So, does anybody have any recommendations? I am planning on staying in California unless you can suggest an even better college out of state that isn't nearly impossible to get into. Thanks so much for your help!! ^^
