Abusive and Cruel Clinical Instructors: Why??
Thank you so much for posting that!! I will follow those golden rules. The one I have to focus on is not taking it personal when I get yelled at. It's hard not to. I want to learn, and I love what I do, but I don't want to work in fear.

Abusive and Cruel Clinical Instructors: Why??
Wow I'm glad I'm not the only one who's going through this. Last semester we weren't expected to do much at clinicals and I didn't have a mean instructor, but I could kinda tell she didn't like me. I don't know why. I've always been early, willing to help others, never gotten written up for anything. This semester though, my instructor seems to have singled me and another student out to be the losers of the group. I get high grades in class, but when I'm at clinicals I feel like a complete failure. At the beginning I was talked to about lack of organization, I can honestly say that I have fixed that problem right away and have not fallen behind once. My instructor never spends time with me at my patients, but if anything's not right and she sees it by the door, even if I wasn't there when it happened, I get chewed out for it. I keep telling myself how much I want to be a nurse and that my patients all love me, so I can't be that unlikable of a person right? All my patients have raved about me and I'm fortunate enough to have the experience. I'm not even going to contemplate dropping out because it's too important for me. It's just disheartening though, when both clinical instructors I've had don't like me. I'm typically a very likable person too. I just don't get it.

Can I Get Some Online Mentors?
Hi Smitty, Thank you for the encouragement. I know I have a LOOOOONG way ahead of me, one step at a time right? Right now my focus is on pulling an A in my nursing class this semester, get a tech job in a big hospital and hopefully get kept on as an RN when I graduate. I just know that I don't want to stop there though. I want to keep on going with my education and I want to advance to an NP one day. :redpinkhe

Can I Get Some Online Mentors?
Hi all, I'm a first year nursing student persuing an ADN nursing degree. I am in awe of NPs and because that's what I'd like to become one day. Could I get some advice on how to get on the right track? I'm doing well in school and I love my clinicals so far. I intend to go for my BSN as soon as I graudate. I hope to be working as a full time RN while I'm in school Thank you all in advance.

Am I Freaking Out Over Nothing? New Job At Hospital
Thank you for the comfort everyone. I've been biting my nails thinking that I would get a letter rescinding my offer tomorrow. Oh yea, my offer was given to me, pending my background check being passed. I dont know if that changes anything.

Am I Freaking Out Over Nothing? New Job At Hospital
Yes! I was so happy when they did! I am supposed to start orientation next week along with further training, which is what I was trying to schedule.

I don't understand the diff between ADN & BSN????? Help!!!
If you have the time and the money, do your BSN. Most ADNs finish school and continue to persue their BSNs any way.

Am I Freaking Out Over Nothing? New Job At Hospital
He sucks, I know!!! He didn't think it was a big deal. He thought well, if they have a problem they'll call me back and I'll correct it. Meanwhile I got a client to work with.

Am I Freaking Out Over Nothing? New Job At Hospital
I called today and left a message, but havn't heard back from him. Last time we spoke he returned my phone call within an hour. I'm starting to feel like that panic-y girl waiting for a guy to call her for a second date, but I really want this job and don't to lose it over something this rediculous! Don't you think the hospital would call if they think there's a discrepenchy between my resume and their background check? They would give me a chance to explain right?

Am I Freaking Out Over Nothing? New Job At Hospital
My orientation is coming up next week. Meanwhile I've sent in my background check consent. I don't have any records and my last boss is a good friend of my dad's so I thought it was cool. Then yesterday when my old boss went out with my dad he told him that when the background check folks called, he accidentally gave out the wrong years I worked for him, the duratoin was the same as my resume but the beginning and ending years were off. He was between clients at the time and didn't check his records. Well they didn't anything of it, espeically since I havn't been contacted by the hospital over this discrepency. But I'm worried because I was supposed to schedule training with one of the managers and I havn't heard back from him yet. Is it possible I've already lost my job over this? I mean.... I can easily clear up the confusion, but my dad said don't mention it unless the hospital does. I just hope that the hospital would call me to verify before they write me off. The fact that the manager hasn't called me back to schedule training is throwing me into a mini panic! But again, my dad said that since they havn't called or anything, that I should probably go to orientation next week and it'll be fine. I know no one has a crystal ball, but still, what do you think?

What Do Hospitals Check For in Background Checks?
Thank you DoGoodThenGo! That explains a lot. OK so I submitted my background check consent and the next afternoon I got a call from the nursing manager to schedule orientation. Does that mean my background check is cleared? The manager is not in the same office as HR, if that matters. Not sure if I asked this arleady, would I get a call when my background check is cleared and I get an OFFICIAL offer or would they only contact me if there's a problem?

Don't you need to submit fingerprints in order to run an FBI check?

Where do hospitals get their background check information from?
Not sure if this will help, but certain boards treat expunged records as if it never happened. My classmate had a conviction that was expunged and when she called her BOA, the executive director got on the phone with her and said she can mark No on the application, and if by chance it still shows up, she just needs to provide them with proof that it was expunged, and she'll be okay. So considering how long ago it was, perhaps your record can't be expunged, but there might be another way to seal it or pardon it or something. Speaking to an attorney might help. My classmate is a great nursing student as I'm sure you are too. It's not fair to penalize you for old mistakes.

What Do Hospitals Check For in Background Checks?
So aside from the typical criminal and past employment, there's no hospital specialized type of check?
