Hello, I'm new to these forums, this is my first post, and I'm not quite sure how to find my way back so excuse me if I dont post back immediately! I posted in the international pages with a similar query, but I thought I'd look here on the off chance. Basically I'm a student nurse in the UK, (2nd year) and I would like to go to a US school of nursing to see how they do things there for anything from a couple of weeks to perhaps a little longer. I don't know what I expect to gain from this posting... do any US student nurses post here who would maybe like some sort of exchange programme? Or anyone who has any clout with the major nursing schools in Chicago, Layola etc? I am guessing that to actually arrange a clinical placement in a US hospital would be very difficult indeed - (I would need malpractice insurance and all sorts that we don't have in the UK wouldn't I?) but that is indeed what I would like. Just like a placement in the UK, with a mentor, observing how things are done in clinical practice and possibly attending some classes? Oh well I'm rambling... If anyone does reply - thank you you will have a friend for life! Getting to the US has been one of my lifelong ambitions since I was about 13.

I have a meeting with my head of department on this coming thursday, so will see exactly what my options are in terms of dates and whether I need specific hours or not... but I just wondered if anyone had done this or knows if it would be possible?
