I to had several years as an LPN in a GI Lab. When I went back to school 5 years ago to get my RN, I was fortunate enough to be offered a position in the same GI Lab. I still get the opportunity to do procedures--but I also do conscious sedation during the procedures. Having your ACLS, BLS and GI experience will be a great asset. Have you thought about working at the VA? They are always looking to hire RNs (new doesn't matter). The VA of the past is gone--the VA system is trying very hard to change its image--and is doing a fantastic job. As for the person asking how to get into the GI field--GI offices offer a good opening into the field. Also, if you want to work in a hospital, most offer OTJ training. Good luck!!!!

the Kaplan Review book was awesome. They also have a review program but everyone I know said they review from the book (it cost them about $150). Save the money buy Kaplan and take your boards--you worked hard to get here--don't sell yourself short--you can do it. Good luck!!!!!

Document everything. I was an office nurse for 10 years for a busy family practice doctor. I documented everything patients said--positive and negative. Patients don't realize that nurses do this and feel like they can be honest with us more than the doctors. I had patients tell me they took their meds whenever they felt like it--once a patient tried to sue my doctor because he had a stroke from the med he was supposed to be taking but wasn't--when his lawyer reviewed his medical records, the lawsuit was dropped. He knew there was no way a judge would side with him when he had admitted what he was doing. Another time a patient on w/c said he helped a friend move a 300 pound entertainment center. He then tried to tell his work that it was work related--his work subpoened his medical records and refused his claim. Documentation can cya as well as your doctors.
