The presentation was 'What challenges you could face as a band 6 on a new emergency short stay ward'. So I talked about the challenge of achieving clinical excellence from the patients' perspective and from the staff perspective. Within that I talked about clinical governance and said a few things about that, and then the next slide was about leadership and the characteristics of a transformational leader and the ongoing challenges of local and national targets and working within the constraints of a budget. Then they asked me a few questions about the presentation. They asked me how I thought I would make a good leader and how I would command respect from others. They gave loads of clinical scenarios! They asked about clinical governance. Tell me about yourself, why should we give you the job, what can you offer. It was very scary, but when it was over I felt so brave that I would've been proud of myself whatever the outcome! Now that is over though, the hard work will really begin! Thanks again! xxx

Well, I have made a start! Basically I have started by describing emergency care as the 'front door' of the hospital. From there I am going to describe the challenge of ensuring a cycle of continuous improvement for the patient journey using the characteristics of clinical governance. I want to talk about clinical leadership too, but I haven't quite got that far yet! I only have ten minutes so I think no more than 4 or 5 slides! I have had a look through your blog and other posts on Band 6 interviews and the questions you suggested, but I am obsessing about the presentation sooo much that I haven't got to thinking about the questions yet! I haven't really had a chance to plan an informal visit because it was only a week's notice and I've been working! And its about 50 miles away. . . . ! Thank you so much for your advice, it's amazing! Very very appreciated! Even if I don't get this post, I'm really excited to get the experience and the opportunity! Thanks again! x

Hi everyone, I'm new here and think it's fab! I'm looking for a bit of advice for my interview presentation. I have a Band 6 interview for Deputy Sister of a new Emergency Short Stay Unit. As part of the interview I have to do a powerpoint presentation on what challenges I may encounter on a new Emergency Short Stay Unit, and how I think I would overcome them. I'm not sure if it means challenges in general, or challenges because the ward is new. . . Any ideas/advice would be massively appreciated! x
