Travel nurse buddy?
First job in Chinle, AZ, ped OP. It was scary and exciting traveling out here. Didn't think it was that hard to travel by myself, learning quickly IT IS. If you're out in this area & want to chat, let me know. :-)

Adult NT to Peds RN?
Can you first try to shadow an RN on a peds unit for a few hours? That may help you decide. The ED and inpatient units are very different experiences, if you can shadow both, that would be a plus. Good luck!

First year RN Flops. Does it get better?
Yup-it gets better. Start now to make sure you finish those little details. As you will find out some coworkers are unforgiving and will focus on those little mistakes. Just be sure your patients are well taken care of, chart throughout the day and then ensure your charting is complete before heading home. You'll work out a routine! Good luck.

Selke, I know it's been a while, did you enjoy your assignment at Shiprock, NM? I am checking AB Staffing site, of course it sounds really good. Were they a good company to work for? Thanks.

What is a good California travel RN rate?
I'm still confused with all this pay manipulation. Wouldn't the "blended" pay be 36.88 (pay, meal, housing)? Or am I completely not understanding this rate business? Please help me understand. I was informed by a co. in CA that their normal base pay is between $17-19/hr + the normal housing and meal allowance.

Question about housing stipend, per diem and taxes
What would be your advice as the next step? Would you ask for a higher base pay than $19.50? or higher housing/per diem? I too am confused with how the hourly salary is calculated without being "illegal". I don't want to have to pay back a high amount at the end of the year.

Indian Reservation Nursing
Was offered a travel position to Tuba City Regional. For all those that have worked there, what would you consider a drawback to this location? I would be on my first travel assignment. Would you recommend starting a travel career in a remote location? What did you do on your spare time? Thanks for the info.

How do you know which drugs to double check for peds?
That's not a bad suggestion and probably the standard for peds hospitals. As med doses are generally weight based, it would be crucial to double check safe dosages for our younger population. Have fun in your peds rotation.

Failed the Nclex!!!
You've graduated nursing school so you know the material! as the others have said, don't overstudy. relax the night before the test and walk in with a positive attitude. Ask for earplugs, kick your shoes off and read your questions slowly and carefully. Don't ask yourself "what if" for each question! Good Luck!
