Hey everyone, I'm an RN student needing some advice on one of my many concerns as a nursing student.... I didn't have any medical experience or had worked in the medical field as a CNA before I started nursing school. I graduated high school and went right to a nursing program. Now, I'll be graduating in December and becoming an RN. Most nurses that I know started out as a CNA, or even an LPN, and worked their way up. Is it bad that I jumped those two steps and went right into an RN program? I definitely appreciate the work a CNA does and never take it for granted. Some say I shouldn't have become a nurse without being a CNA first. I don't know what to think...I personally think I'll be fine. :wink2: ....and I guess we'll see. Thanks!

A question for anyone... I'm a nursing student in my last semester of my RN program, and I'm still trying to perfect my communication with, sometimes difficult, patients. In a clinical situation, I was helping care for a patient in pain. Already on a PCA pump with morphine, the patient continued to report their pain level at 8 and up. The patient was also already receiving medication for nausea, but continued to ask for something or surely be sick. I tried explaining that we had already given all we could at the time. No more pain medication or anti-emetics could be given...and I was at a loss for words while this patient continued to report severe discomfort. I even tried repositioning, relaxation, distraction, anything.....Any thoughts on how best to manage pain such as this? How to communicate to someone that nothing else can be done for the time being?

Hey everyone, I'm a nursing student in my last semester of our RN program and I graduate in December. I hope to go on and get my BSN, but I don't know if I should apply to a program the very next year or take some time off. For all those who have graduated from an ADN program and are wanting their BSN, is taking some time off to work and get some experience wise or should I just jump right into more schooling without a break? Any thoughts would be great...thanks!
