It seems like there are several factors contributing to the current nursing shortage in Canada. The fact the the States offers to pay off student loans is causing our well educated nurses to move to the States. The current work place environment (short staffed, stress, under paid) is also casuing nurses to move away from the nursing profession and persue other careers. I am hoping to recieve feedback on how RN's who are currently practicing in this stressful enviromnet are able to manage? Do you have any hints or stories?
I would tend to disagree that the only enemy a nurse has is fellow nurses. In my experience (which is small), the nurses generally work together and assist on another. If nurses did not work together and help one another, they would be even more run down. The nursing shortage is stressful enough, if nurses did't work together they would burn out even faster.
I am a second year nursing student in Canada. I am concerned with the nursing shortage that we currently face and I am afraid of where the shortage will be in a few years. How do other nurses feel about this?
It appears that there is currently a nursing shortage and it is going to continue to get worse. I am basing my concern of things which I have heard in the media, my own personal experience and three websites which I explored. These websites are: 1.http://www.rnabc.bc.ca 2.http://www.healthservices.gov.bc.ca/cpa/publications/healthcarestrat/nursing.html 3.http://www.cna-nurses.ca/pages/press/nursing_stats_support_predictions_of_national_nursing_shortage.htm I am concerned that when I graduate in 2.5 years with my nursing degree, I will not be able to provide quality care for my patients because my workload will be so heavy. What do others think about this issue?
