  1. Does anyone know anything about the RN residency program at Children's? How long is the commitment? How competitive is it? How are the classes/preceptorships scheduled? What is pay like? I hear there are two rounds of interviews, one with the program and one with a department. Do you get accepted into the program and then they find a place for you or do you depend on one department to make the decision? It seems like they would want the best applicants in the program, but if you interview with only one department it seems like good applicants would get left out (a lot of people I would think apply for ED, NICU, Onc). Has anyone been through the process or is in the program now? Any input would be helpful. I am thinking of moving back to Michigan and applying to the next cycle.
  2. First, the intensity is not that great, people exaggerate greatly, you will have a lot of free time to do whatever you want (work, workout, hangout with your family). There is a lot of work, but I feel my undergrad degree was a lot harder in terms of content and a lot stricter with rules and grades. I guess this could be based on your previous degree, but you should relax a little, no need to worry about it now. It seems that we always have two or three days completely off and a lot of the time these days are in a row. I was in the same MS-I as Dennis and it was a good experience, but I liked OB a lot better overall between class and clinical. I want to go into something other than med-surg (sorry but for some reason med-surg and I don't click), but I will take what I can get to start. Go into the program thinking it will be super hard and more time consuming than anything, and then be surprised when you can relax a bit.
  3. Clinical rotations are not necessarily that bad in terms of planning. Most of them are on weekends and are given some time in advance (sometimes not that much time), but they have never changed after they have been given out. You will have the schedule in advance as the class starts and those times are set, so you won't be going day by day wondering when you are having clinical.
  4. I am in the program with Dennis, don't listen to anything he says :) Anyways if you guys have any questions just post. Also, if you have some things you don't want to ask on the boards just PM me.
  5. csulb_student, I was wondering what the book situation is like in class. Do we need to buy the latest editions of the books or is it more of a on your own study out of the book and class is more lecture. Do you think I could get away with having older editions of the books in most classes? Thanks Nick
  6. I have created a basic page, you should be able to go to this link and then just hit join. Everything should be open to all, but I did make it so you have to ask to join and then be accepted in case we don't want everyone seeing what we post. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=182963866731 Nick
  7. How about this, I will get a group page up within the next two-three days and post the link here, that way if people want to join they can, and then everyone can become friends off of that. I am worried about the paperwork because I am going out of town Dec 10-Jan 3 and wanted some of the stuff figured out by then, hopefully they send it out soon.
  8. Hi Everyone, I am going to Metro this Jan too. I am 28, live in Northglenn (hope to move back to Denver), and I work in an infectious disease lab in Centennial. I applied to other schools also, but I want to go to Metro for various reasons. Like others, I also want to go on to become a CRNA after Metro and hope that Metro will start me on that path. Outside of work I like to run, camp, and hang with my wife. I was thinking that we could start a facebook group if others were on, thoughts? Other than that I have not received anything from Metro lately. I did fill out financial aid paperwork and received some information on that (but all based on an average Metro student not nursing). Nick
  9. csulb_student, I am thinking of going to Metro and had just a few general question I was wondering if you could help me with. What is your schedule like on a daily and weekly basis? Does this schedule change depending on the unit or placement? How hard would you say your classes are? I know people in other programs and they say that pharm and patho are the major classes and the rest are a lot less difficult, is this true for Metro? Do you work or know anyone that works while in the program? I know the 2010 program will be a little more spread out, so maybe we could work a little more than your class. What subjects have you had the most trouble with and would suggest studying up for before school starts? Thanks Nick
  10. Alice88, What other schools are you looking at, I have to make a choice by the end of next week. Why is Metro 3rd on your list?
  11. If you two are still waiting, I just wanted to let you know that I received notification today about the program. Hope that helps, good luck.
  12. Has anyone heard any information from Metro yet? I have been waiting, but I have a deposit due next week for another school and wanted to hear from Metro before I decide. I know people are going to say just pay the deposit ($1000) and then I can decide later when I hear from Metro, but I really don't want to lose money I been saving. I was thinking of calling or emailing Metro to see how far along in the process they are, but I did not want to annoy people there if they have no idea. Nick
  13. Alice88, What information did you get from the info session? I know they just changed their program to the Jan start and 17 months, but why did they do this? Did they talk about the schedule? Are we going to have the same breaks as all students at Metro or did they add courses or clinical hours? I was wondering how their semesters work as compared to traditional students at Metro. Any information on the new program would be great if you have any. Thanks
  14. I was wondering if anyone has found out from Metro if they are in for Jan 2010? I know it has only been 2 weeks from the deadline, but I was wondering what the response time usually is from Metro. I was hoping to know soon, but I do not even have a clue about what their time frame is.
  15. I applied to Metro and I am applying to CU, I want to start as soon as possible so I hope I get into Metro. CU's program looks way harder to get into, but I know people who got accepted without great GPAs.
