  1. The lpn program at my school still requires the same pre reqs as the RN program and they have to be completed before you can apply. After you qualify for the program you are put on a waiting list. right now it is 2 years. I would go ahead and do the a and p and micro. you are going to need it for a bsn anyway and they will transfer. You could go ahead and appy to a 4 year school. they usually have you take all the prereqs the first two years and the clinical portion is the last two.
  2. I need help with my nursing diagnosis #1 problem. My patient is a 63 year old male. history of smoking, diabetes mellitus, pancreatitis, alcoholism, hypertension and hyperlipidemia. He was admitted with acute abdominal pain. diagnosed with peptic ulcer perforation. underwent laparaotomy of the abdomen and graham patch repair. he is now post op, midline abdominal incision with wound vac. jp drains in llq and rlq. He has an ng tube on low intermittent suction. he is npo receiving TPN and LR. His labs show increased wbc, low h&H, low sodium, low calcium and high triglycerides. I chose weakness and pain for my second and third problems and i wanted to use impaired nutrition less than body requirements for my number one problem but none of the interventions seem to go with my patient. I am not sure what to use now, or how to make what I did choose work. I do believe his nutrition is impaired, but the interventions in my book list things like provide company for the patient while eating....this does not relate. any suggestions? TIA
  3. 80 and absolutely no rounding. i am repeating med surg II and had a 79.9 last semester.
  4. Thank you for your replies. I do not get my test back until Monday so I will let you all know then. I am sure it is D5W but I did read into the question only because the questions they give us are all critical thinking. I would not assume a patient has something going on...but...if I can conclude it with the information given, well then I had better be able to do it! I am frustrated because this is my second time in the course which has a 22% pass rate and I really just want to pass this time. Last spring I was only 1 of 40 who made it to the final exam out of 164 to start. Only 15 of those passed the course. I am just trying to figure out where I went wrong and not repeat the same mistakes this time around! Thanks again:yeah:
  5. I forgot to add that the patient was npo with ng tube...so d5w to reduce the sodium..so I just don't worry about the low chloride?
  6. Ok, I just took my first test on F and E and this is not my first attempt at Med Surg II. I studied my butt off for this test and after taking it I do not feel as though I did any better on it than I did the first time I took the course (last spring) Any who, I am stumped on the first question on the test which read: Your patient is admitted to the hospital, upon review of her lab values you find Cl- 88 Na+ 160 K+ 4. Which of the following IV solutions would you administer? A Lactated Ringers B D5W C D10W D .45NS with Potassium I do not know the answer to this question, or why I should know the answer, as EVERYTHING I have been assigned to read has only what to do for high or low sodium or high or low chloride, and how they go together and mimic each other, and treating one will treat the other....So how am I supposed to know which one of these to give? Obviously, the potassium is normal so I'm not giving D. I would think that giving D10W would completely flush out the sodium taking chloride with it, but I dont know about A or B. I chose A because I thought D5W would also give free water and flush out sodium with chloride, but I guess A is wrong too since it contains sodium. What is the answer. And Why?? I have been back through all of my material and still can not come up with the answer. Please, please! help me!
  7. Hello all, I am new here. I am currently a student at Midlands technical college but I have completed everything I can take for my ADN and I am waiting for clinicals. My start date is Jan 2011. I have an appointment monday morn to speak with the admissions office for South University and I was wondering if anyone here has completed their nursing program and could tell me a little about it. I know the BSN program is new, and i also know they are accredited by the SC board of nursing but not the NLN or collegiate nurses. Is there anyone in the program that can tell me a little bit about it. how it works, which hospitals they use for clinicals? Thanks in advance for your replies. I would love to go ahead and start school, but If South is not a good school, i will hold my place at Midlands tech. Marilyn
