OT: What other Medical Job would you consider if not RN? Why?
Thanks for all your replys. I haven't really looked into nothing except RN and Radiology. Well kinda into Surgical Tech also. I was just thought it would be a nice topic to have going. My heart is in Nursing. It always has been. But when I found out about the Long Wait here - Im beginning to wonder about other things that haver shorter programs. At the colleges around here, they're are students who have been waiting 3 years or more to get in. I've even been offered a job at the Sheriffs Dept here. I really think that would be interesting. As a child - I always wanted to be a Doctor (I think it was really nursing...lol) or an Investigator. Forensics Investigation is really interesting to me as well. Hmmmm.... the daily decisions we must all deal with. LOL Anyways, thanks for the great replys. Atleast you got to think more out of the Nursing and into other areas. thanks!

? 4 those who went to RN school without previous experience
Hi everyone! I have a question that is bugging me to death. (Actually it's in conjunction with a question that I am being asked every day from family and friends.) Here's what I am getting asked.... Do you realize what an RN is? Do you realize what an RN is responsible for? Do you realize what kind of position you are putting yourself in becoming an RN? Granted.... these questions are coming from people that aren't in the least bit interested in the medical field. None of these people even know a RN personally that I am aware of. But anyway...... Don't even get me started on that! LOL My question is this - Did any of you have to deal with those kind of remarks? How did you handle it? Did it scare you? How did you handle the transition from no-medical-experience to school for RN? (Although I will have some experience) My problem is this - It's beginning to scare me. I've began to think that maybe I don't want that kind of responsibility. But then again - I know it's what I want to do, and what I have always wanted to do. I know the answer to all of those questions. I know what Im getting into. And until now - it didn't bother me. And it's really not bothering me all too much right now - but the scare is slowly creeping up on me. If Im feeling this way - does it mean that maybe it's not for me? I surely hope not. Because I know I want to do this. It's in my heart and has been for a very long time. Am I thinking about this too much? Please tell me others have had their doubts as well. Im not the only one am I? I am 25 years old - married but do not have any children. Right now, I want to work on getting my ADN from the CC here in my area. That way - I can already be well in my career before having children. I think it would be too hard if I had kids right now. The only good news I have right now is that I have talked to all the Nursing recruiters here in my area from many different hospitals and 1 of them hires people (that aren't even CNA's) that are enrolled in school for LPN or RN and trains them to become CNA's for their hospital while in school and will work totally around your school schedule any way that you wish. You don't even have to be in clinicals in school. So I thought that was a great idea. I will know next week about starting. They hire for many departments and you can go to any of them. So I think that will be a great source of knowledge for me and help me through out school. Anyways, I would just like some of your thoughts on this and how to deal with the "questions" that I am recieving. I just need to feel like Im making the right decision. I hear so many different things from people around here. "You need to do LPN first" or "I would be scared to go into something like that". I don't want to hear from these Non-Medical related people. I would love to hear from you!! Thanks and Sorry So Long!

OT: What other Medical Job would you consider if not RN? Why?
Sorry for the misunderstanding babyboomer....... What I mean is ... if in that department - is there another position that you would like to have? Besides nursing. In different facilites there are different positions within those type fields EX - Radiology - RTs, Nurses, etc What would you do in another medical field if you were not a nurse? And why? Thanks to you all in advance for your time!

Totally off topic here but was wondering........ If you weren't an RN or LPN or etc..... What other kind of job would you like to have in the medical field. Wether it be Dialysis, Radiology, Lab, etc? And what is the reasoning behind it? Thanks!

Georgia CNA Law - Training and Beyond!
Hi - I live in Georgia and will be attending a CNA class very soon. I have a few questions in the meantime. Does anyone know the Law on which procedures a CNA can do in this state? I want to be able to draw blood, start IV's, and things like that while I am a CNA. Is this possible? Or can I get further certification or spealization for these types of procedures and then be able to do them while a CNA? How would I go about finding out? I have searched the internet with different topics concering what a CNA is allowed to do in Georgia but have come up with nothing. I have enrolled in College for the ADN-RN program. I will be starting my Pre-Reqs soon. So in the meantime- I want to work as a CNA or something related. Where can I get the most learning and knowledge while going to school? Nursing Assistant Phlebotomy Medical Assistant or other ????? I want to do the one that can do more things in the field. I want to possibly learn as much as I can while in school. (I absolutely have to work while in school) What would you recommend? Thanks for all your help!

Bad News from school - change of major?
Hi everyone! Im a little bummed today. I had called my school last night and was talking to them about their CNA class they offer so that I could begin work in the hospital while I get my ADN. Just something to get my foot in the door while Im in school. Weellllll........... He told me he didn't want to discourage me from my dreams but I needed to know... that there are students that have been waiting 3 years or more to get into the ADN program. What am I going to do now? I have waited so long to actually start going back to school and now it seems I'll be there forever. I thought about this all night. My next option would be to go ahead and get my pre-reqs done but yet major in something else right now.... and still put my name in the list. Then I would already have them done - and can just jump right into Nursing. And at the same time already have a major in something and be working. I can't wait 3 years working as a CNA. Around here they barely get over min wage. Our min wage is 5.15 and they my make about 6 dollars or 6.50 here and there. Now to my main question - It has to be in the medical field. What would you recommend that I look into that isn't so competitive? For example - Physical Therapist Assistant Respiratory Therapy Surgical Technology Radiology Medical Assisting I don't know alot about these and would love any opinion that you may have on any of these. Or if you know of anything else that is interesting to any of you since you all know many of the positions in a hospital or medical facility. Thank you all so much for your help!

How did you decide to go into Medical Field?
I want to thank each and everyone one of you for your replys. This has meant so much to me since I was a child as well. Last night, I did some real soul searching after posting this thread. I have decided to go ahead with it. Atleast I can say I gave it my best shot if I do fail. (but ya know what-Im not going to fail...lol) That's alot better than "not ever knowing." Again - thanks! For now, I will start my Pre-Reqs in April. Untill then, Im going to try and find a CNA course that I can get into before then. I will be here to ask many questions as I go further down this road. I hope to have many more conversations with each of you and hope to build many long term friendships along the way!! Talk to you soon!

How did you decide to go into Medical Field?
Hi there, I am new here and have been reading your boards for the last couple of days. You really have a great site here and I hope to join you all permantly! My question is this - When you were deciding what your future was going to be like, how did you make the life altering decision to be a nurse? The reason I ask this is - I'm afraid that school will be too hard or that I am not smart enough to make it through. Or that I will just not catch on quick enough. I realize I am dealing with Life & Death situations out there and in some ways that scares me. In my Heart of Hearts - I am a very loving and caring person. I've always known that I would be in the medical field. Caring for others and making differences in the lives of others is something I crave for. To some extent - I believe it to be my "calling". Is that possible while at the same time being terrified? How could it be this way but yet scare me to pieces? I have activated my college application and will be starting in April for just my pre-reqs. I have so many thoughts going through my mind right now it's hard to concentrate. Day in and out I'm thinking about Nursing. I know the job is hard, tiring, demanding, underpaid, etc, etc, etc (there is so much to be said) but to me..... it's all worth it. I love people and would do anything to make the life of someone else or family of someone else be the best that I can. School and 1st couple of years of working... just scares me to death. I know I'm not the only one that has ever felt this way. Could someone please shed some light on this for me? How did you overcome your fears? What was the one thing that mattered to you the most that made this decision for you? Sorry for so long!! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much in advance! :)
