Do you guys see a lot of people saying they are nursing students....
Personally, I always down play everything and say less than what I am doing. I am in an entry level masters NP program and after a year and a half we get an accelerated BSN. So I always tell anyone in the hospital and outside that its an accelerated BSN program and its super hard and quick and we have 12 hr shifts two times a week so they know we are working hard. If they ask more then I go on to share more, but most don't really and I don't mind because I'm not even in the masters part yet. What's with people's deal of getting ahead of themselves. If I was a pre-nursing student I would say I'm just thinking about nursing and when they ask more I have a ton of info to share about my school and pre-reqs. Or to people outside nursing I say I just started "nursing school" if they think CNA program then whatever, most people do when they hear nursing, its all the same profession to everyone in the general public and I don't mind. If they inquire more and have a story to tell thats when I say bachelors program and if they really know something about nursing I share its an entry level NP program. Who cares what people think, I know what I'm doing and that's all that matters. Some people will just always feel the need to prop themselves up when speaking to others, and I see that, but hopefully there are some out there like me that do the complete opposite, lol.

Oh man, thanks for letting us know. June/July is a long time to wait.

CSULB EL-MSN Fall 2010 Applicants
Hi, welcome you guys :) They said the same thing to me about financial aid, they are not done processing our admissions information (university/department acceptance) so they haven't started processing financial aid awards yet, but you can call to make sure you are complete because they can let you know that. I sure wish they would do it soon. I'm not sure about the schedule either, I just can't wait to find out info at orientation. Actually I just realized its probably a combined orientation with bsn/el-msn students. I found their forum this year and theirs is also on June 11th. Wow there will probably be 150 people there.

SFSU Generic MSN for Fall 2010
Yeah I got the email too. I'm accepted for Spring 2011 Adult CNS, they divided the class up again. Looks like I will be declining though, to go to another state school. I'm so glad the wait is over. Congrats to everyone that made it!! For next years applicants FYI...I only had a 3.4 undergrad GPA, with a 4.0 in the prereqs, so I just can't believe I'm admitted. Its totally possible and not all about crazy numbers. I wrote a personal statement very geared towards the role of Adult Acute Care CNS and talked about how I want to work with patients and their families to plan their care and tied it in with my hospital volunteer experiences and brief experience with clinical research. Thank you so much for everyone sharing information about the program.

SFSU Generic MSN for Fall 2010
I agree, the post about FNP has nothing to do with the entry level program. I still don't think anyone has been notified yet.

CSU Fullerton Fall 2010 applicants?
If you haven't even taken the MCAT yet then it is a big gamble. Its a beast. Unless your practice scores are at least 27-31 already then I'd be hesitant to attempt to tackle it if I had an acceptance at nursing school waiting. Also, med schools will kill you for having no health care experience. You can always get it, but that will take time. You do have a 3.7 though and military experience! Oh no, I'm having flashbacks of late nights on student doctor network forums in undergrad. You mentioned interest in a CRNA program too so you have obviously thought it through. There are so many options in nursing which is what I love about the field. Just close your eyes and trust your instincts, if its not for you then it will just hit you at some point probably in the next 4 months. That's what happened for me and med school. I just suddenly blurted out, "i don't want to go to med school while filling out my application and writing my personal statement" and my boyfriend was like "what"? I was like "I know, but I think I want to do these nursing programs instead". A year and a half and 5 more classes later I'm IN. Haha, sorry for the long story...but goodluck really, and just know that you are not alone :)

CSU Fullerton Fall 2010 applicants?
Hey future murse, congrats! I was preparing for MCAT's a year ago too, its funny how things change. I am so happy for it too. Not that I don't think going to med school is awesome, but I'm so glad I found my thing with nursing you know. I don't think you will regret it...opportunities happen for a reason!

CSU Fullerton Fall 2010 applicants?
Ok here it is...hope it helps. My letters and interview felt good to me. Its probably my borderline undergrad GPA that put me just below their cutoff. Goodluck everyone...I'm sure these numbers will come in handy to next years applicants, to see who made it to the top of the alternate list, but ultimately made it in. -Last 60 semester unit GPA= 3.57 (14 points)- possibly 12 points though, its borderline from 3.54 to 3.57 -Prereq GPA= 4.0 (20 points) -Volunteer= (5 points) -Residency= (10 points) CA+ Riverside -Letters ? I know they were really good -Interview ? Felt I very confidently articulated why I want to go into nursing and felt I showed I was knowledgeable about the many degrees, career paths, and job areas related to nursing. I also talked about how my mom is a nurse.

CSULB EL-MSN Fall 2010 Applicants
Anybody have any updates besides the health requirements email they sent out? I can now log-on to mycsulb and it says admitted to the university. Can anybody see their financial aid awards yet online? I called financial aid and they said it should be up by Friday and if it isn't to call them back. Its all happening so fast, crazy.

CSU Fullerton Fall 2010 applicants?
Thanks for the goodluck wishes gashin! I know that Long Beach is where I want to go. But for everyone else...I just got an acceptance from Fullerton today!! I was on the waitlist but not anymore I just got the email at 3:45pm Tuesday. They are giving me until May 7th to email them back to accept before they ask another person on the alternate list. Looks like they are cycling through everybody...I will send them an email back to decline probably tomorrow morning, so somebody else is next :) See you all in future clinicals and hospitals in the area.

CSU Fullerton Fall 2010 applicants?
Ive always heard you needed a BSN for CRNA, but I never understood how that relates to the entry level MSN programs. If it true that an MSN is accepted instead, then that makes more sense. I agree with all you guys on here that if you want to enter the CRNA field...Fullerton is the place you should be! I think you will benefit by going there for the entry level masters, you will get to know the faculty and network like you guys said...it will be a way more fulfilling experience by going to the school that has the future program you want.

West Covina is a little far, a move might be a good idea. I need to move back to orange county too! I live in San Diego and Temecula right now. I know the clinical sites are all over orange county so I was a little hesitant at first to move right next to the school because then I'll be driving far away every weekend anyways. But the bus system would make it so I we won't have to drive to campus all the time, which would be really nice. I did learn something from undergrad, haha. I am not sure where to live at all. Actually I'm more interested in finding roomates to live with though. Since I'm moving from further away anyways, anyone I live with will be totally random.

Yeah I'm choosing CSULB, no Fullerton for me. I think it will take at least until half way through May to cycle through a few alternates.

No one received acceptance emails. The post on this forum was for Fullerton mistakenly. Who else do you know has an acceptance email?

CSULB EL-MSN Fall 2010 Applicants
Nope, last I heard they weren't sending out confirmation emails...I called and asked, and she said it would be too much work and she would never get stuff finished.

CSU Fullerton Fall 2010 applicants?
I believe Fullerton is a great program too, but I agree that the last year and half just working on the masters seems a little uncertain to me. If its not CNL exactly and there are no NP options or CNS courses then how exactly does it stretch out to another 1.5 years after doing all the pre-licensure work. I'm not against Fullerton because I think its better than a lot of other programs its just the dots are not lining up for me yet and I feel like I still have more questions.
-
CSU Fullerton Fall 2010 applicants?
Yeah its strange because I assumed it was a CNL program too. I remember making it a big question and being like, "so is this a CNL program"? And they asked the whole interview group (35 people) "do you guys all know what a CNL is?" and then they said no. They even introduced one of the professors as a CNL and she said that with additional courses/training that it is possible after the program is done, but they were really vague about it...maybe a little ashamed haha. But they seemed pretty sure that its not like the other programs like UCLA that directly award the CNL. It just seems like a few of you guys on the forum are really excited about the CNL role, so maybe it won't hurt to ask more questions.
-
CSU Fullerton Fall 2010 applicants?
I asked whether it was a CNL certification program during the interview and she said it wasn't. She said that you would have to take extra classes. Its not a CNL program guys...even though its a nursing leadership concentration...its just a general masters. I'm sure you will get close to a CNL when you are finished but I would ask her personally if that is something you are really interested in. Did you guys hear the same thing when she commented on my question that were on the same interview day?

CSULB EL-MSN Fall 2010 Applicants
Thanks for responding, you did a second before me. Wow, yeah that's what I expected. I actually thought that was a bonus though the 4-6 weeks, I find that it forces me to study every day and I actually retain more information that way then spreading it out over a semester. For me its not really the BSN part that matters so much (like you said its 16 months vs. 18 months), but its the masters portion where Fullerton does not offer any certifications during that time and CSULB has a lot of options available and that tells me a little more. Man, we all have lots of stuff to think about.

CSULB EL-MSN Fall 2010 Applicants
Wow Meems, congrats on those schools and the decisions :) I too would also like to know what your sister thought of the program. From what I hear, it is really really intense. I think they keep you super busy, so maybe that's what your talking about. I would love to hear more info as well as CSULB is my first choice!!!

CSULA ELMN Applicants 2010
I love how nobody told us about the 4/5 deadline, I thought the finaid person said March...but April that was like a week ago. No one did it, because we just started thinking about it now. It would have been nice to get an email from the school, but I have to trust that this is not the first year for the program...and they probably know more about what's going on. But then again, this is the first year for the huge tuition increase and summer session budget crisis so this might be a new learning experience for everyone. Ok, so we are suppose to get something in the mail...that's good to know :)

CSULA ELMN Applicants 2010
It might be too soon to start asking. But, have any of you got an email about the orientation May 1st? I'm not going to have a physical and TB test done but I'll be able to show CPR and immunizations. The coordinator mentioned that we should be working on these things when I responded to her acceptance email a while back in case you were wondering. Also, I don't think they have sent our names to the admissions office yet because I called them today and they had no idea I was admitted. I'm just eager to get things moving and possibly start to look at financial aid stuff, because it does start in June. I talked to the financial aid office today and they were saying because the program starts in summer it will be difficult to get finaid money? Apparently they needed a form by March 5th for a summer priority deadline. But they said that by Fall everything will be reimbursed but summer it is hard to get money. That didn't make me feel to confident, but I'm sure we will hear all about it at the orientation. Well that was my 20 minutes spent out of this entire month trying to get some info. Maybe you guys had some better luck...

CSULB EL-MSN Fall 2010 Applicants
I heard 8.86 also, I think they told us at an info session a while back that it was last years cutoff.
