University of Rochester Accelerated Nursing Program - ABPNN
Hi!! I just got my acceptance letter into the May 2010 class!! I'm so excited! I was super excited for the first 2 hours then a sense of dread came over me as I realized how much I have to take out in the way of loans!! YIKES!!! But now I'm back to excited and trying to rationalize my decision!! How are you guys dealing with that thought? I knew the program was expensive but that little green sheet that shows the costs gave me a slight panic attack. When is everyone moving to Rochester? I can't wait to meet everyone!! Wow this post has a lot of exclamation points! Oh and for people who haven't heard yet...I interviewed December 15th and didn't put in my application until the deadline. I don't know if that helps, but I was so nervous when I saw other people had already been accepted and I thought for sure I didn't get in. As others have said, I also heard that the process will go into February. Good luck to everyone!

Best thing about being a nurse?
Hello! I've just started my pre-requisites for a nursing program and I'm in the process of a career change. I've been reading around this site and see a lot of venting posts. I totally get venting, but of course reading all the venting has me scared that I made the wrong choice! I think I'm just freaking out because I'm really actually doing it, I'm making a career change later in life. But I'm wondering if any of you could tell me what you think is the best part of being a nurse? Thank you!!

BSN-MSN - Savings?
73 includes room and board and I would be able to live with my parents so I could save money that way. Can I ask what made you decide to go private as opposed to public? I'm so excited and yet so nervous!

BSN-MSN - Savings?
The program I'm looking at is an accelerated 12 month program for non-nurses with a bachelors in another field. It's technically 3 semesters. So that just sounds like a lot for 3 semesters!! Thanks for the input!!

BSN-MSN - Savings?
Hello! I'm in the process of looking into schools. I want to get my MSN. I spoke with a school who told me that a lot of people get their accelerated BSN and then work for a year at the hospital associated with the University and then get their masters for free. Any thoughts regarding this? Does this make sense? Also, how much do people typically save? The accelerated BSN is about $73,000 (including room and board and expenses). Is that crazy? I threw up in my mouth a little when I heard this!! However I will have a free room so that will save a lot. Is it crazy to think about doing this? I think it's crazy. I don't know what I'm doing. I'm overwhelmed!!! Ideally I would love to go for a direct entry MSN but getting a free Masters is definitely appealing! I've posted around this website a little already, so if I'm over-posting, please forgive me!

University of Rochester Accelerated Nursing Program - ABPNN
I'm looking into the U of R too - for May 2010. I'm scared that I won't get in but I'm also wondering how to justify the cost of a private school vs. a public school. Do any of you have any insight on this?

University of Rochester vs. Johns Hopkins University Accelerated Masters Program
Hi! I'm wondering what you both decided? I'm looking into Rochester. The cost is insane! I was told that the total cost for everything was about $73,000. Do people who go to these programs have an independent source of funding? How do you justify these costs as opposed to a state school? Is the caliber of education enough to justify the cost? Any opinions would be so helpful!

Does reputation matter for Nursing School?
Thanks, Elkpark. May I pick your brain for what other reasons there may be to go to a more prestigious program? I have a pretty good in at this school and I really want to go there, I just worry that it's not the best decision, cost wise.

Does reputation matter for Nursing School?
Hi! I'm in the process of a huge career change. I was going to law school and I'm now changing to going to Nursing school. I'm in the very beginning stages; I'm just now starting the pre-requisites. For law school, the reputation of the law school is very important in determining where you get a job, as well as the type of job you get. Is the same true for Nursing School? I understand that it's important to check out NCLEX passing rates as well as passing rates for students. However, I'm most interested in a school at the University of Rochester. It has a great program, a great reputation, and it's where I currently live which makes it even more convenient. The cost is phenomenal compared to, say, a state school in NY. The state schools are good, but this school is famous for it's research and hospital. My question is, is it worth paying the price for this school for both its reputation and convenience? Or would it make more sense to go the economical route?
