  1. The ER may prefer someone with an Acute Care NP certificate. They may hire an FNP if they have previous emergency experience. I would ask someone who has more ER knowledge than I have.
  2. I always advise the FNP. The training is not any longer than the ANP. You never know what life will bring, and the marketability is better. Who wants to go back to school to do additional training as a PNP if needed? I have precepted several students who had specialized as PNP or Woman's health NP and had to go back for additional schoolwork to get jobs. Do it all at the beginning! You will probably not need to use the peds part, but it will give you options. I work in college health, so don't work with young kids any longer. I too prefer adults and older teens.
  3. The NP in Florida is considered an ARNP - Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner by the Florida Board of Nursing. I am also Board Certified by the ANCC but that can be added to my signature by signing First Last Name, ARNP, BC - if I so choose. I do not add any more alphabet to my name other than ARNP, although I could sign as ARNP, MSN, FNP, BC
  4. :heartbeatMy advise is to train as a Family Nurse Practitioner. An FNP can practice in pediatrics, but a PNP cannot practice with adults. When I went to school years ago I had applied for woman's health NP and FNP. I ended up getting the FNP. I have never regretted my decision. I have precepted NP students from a major university for 13 years, and some of them have been NP's from other disciplines returning for their FNP. They have to do extra training to do that! FNP's are free to work in almost any discipline. They work in ER's, surgery, women's health, pediatrics, etc. The only areas I can see that need different programs are neonatal NP and similar fields.
