Anyone familiar with MU's Accelerated BSN Program?
I'm looking into the accelerated BSN Program at MU because I already have a bachelor's degree in another field. Does anyone have experience with MU's program? How many students do they accept? When is the best time to apply? Are there other Accelerated BSN programs that anyone could recommend?

Pre-Nursing Jobs
What is a good Pre-Nursing job for someone looking at nursing as a second career? What is the best experience to have and what are the best paying jobs? I'm looking at Nursing as a career change and hoping to enter an accelerated BSN progam after my pre-reqs are done. I have worked around hospitals for years, but I really have no practical experience in the medical field, but I am a quick learner. I still need to support my family, so minimum wage jobs could only be something I could do part time (after my day job). So, Any suggestions on where to start?

Classes start Monday!
Class starts Tuesday. Just Chemistry ( kind of sticking my toe in to test the water ), But still a little anxious. I turn 39 in about an hour and a half from now, and I really need a career change. (Yes, this doubles as my mid-life crisis.) I've thought about Nursing for some time but it seemed like such a long-shot. Really the only thing holding me back is ME! Hoping to get my pre-reqs out of the way to enter the accelerated BSN program in 2011. Wish me Luck! ... And good luck to you guys too!

Just Getting Started
OK, I pulled the trigger today and got registered for Chemistry I. Maybee this is my mid-life crisis, but I am tired of what I have been doing for most of the last 20yrs, and need a change of pace. I have thought about nursing for a while now, and have worked around hospitals (in the construction field) for quite a few years now. It seems to me like a secure career move; something I think I could enjoy; I like helping people; etc, etc. I went back to college 5 years ago and finished my Bachelor of Science in Business Adminstration. Now I am thinking of the Accelerated BSN program at MU. I haven't had any of the Pre-Req's (Chemistry, Nutrition, Microbiology, Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology) and need to have 4 of 6 by December prior to admission. I kind of see this a dipping my toe in the water, but I am excited at the same time! So many thought have been racing through my head that I have a hard time keeping a grasp on what I'm really doing. ... This could be the first step in a major life change! Is there any advice out there for pitfalls I should avoid? I have enjoyed reading a lot of the posts here on allnurses. (especially relating to male nurses!) What is a good career move to get into the medical field? What would be the best stepping stone to transition into nursing? My biggest fear is taking a big paycut to make the transition because I still have a family to support. Thanks for any advice, and Keep up the great posts!
