This is a really good thread because alot of people say its hard to find decent nursing work in Florida. I can't speak on the other areas but I'll say what I know of here in Tampa. I am not a nurse, however, my sister in law just passed her nurse examination in April of this year and is already making $23.00 hourly. Alot of people report that they are having a hard time gaining employment, but she got employed in no time and is looking into changing to overnight and weekends because some hospitals pay up to $1.75 extra for those shifts. You have much more experience so I anticipate that you will make more. Again this is for Tampa Hillsborough county area, I am unsure of other areas but I hope this helps.

I'm unsure of the WIA program but if you can't attend more than two years then maybe you shouldn't attend a bridge program. With a LPN to RN program it willl be longer than two yrs because the average PN program is 12-18 months then to bridge into a RN it can extend another 15 months. Really you may have two opts. You could attend a PN program at a technical or "career center" then maybe consider attending the community college's RN program. PTEC has the most popular LPN program in your area there website is www.myptec.org OR you could just attend a RN program and skip the PN program. I'm am unsure of Pinellas county RN programs but many in my county are 2 years anyway. Be careful of pre req courses though, that could add extra time. Perhaps someone can give you more info about RN programs in Pinellas. Hope this helps some. :)

I don't know what kind of program your in but I can assure you the wait at most schools in Hillsborough county is 2 years and sometimes thats just to be placed on a lottery for a slot to attend the classes. Thats why I look into state approved schools in smaller counties thats close enough to commute to.

as stated on the ptec site the purpose of the admissions seminar is to review the requirements of submitting a fully complete application by the stated deadline. now no one at the office when i was there tuesday said because i didnt attend the seminar i couldnt submit a application. i submitted my application that day and they didnt ask for proof that i attended. since the true deadline isn't until the 4th of sept i don't see it being a problem. i have emailed sherry so i hope she can clear this all up.

I guess the original turnout was not good enough thats why they are still accepting applications. I asked about the initial orientation and was told not to worry about it I would get the same lessons if I am selected for the class. So I'm not really 100percent sure now at this point, and unfortunately the counselor over the LPN program is on vacation. I think I'll send her an email and I'll let you all know.

I did not do as well as i wanted, I scored a 79. I took the test on a whim after finding out there were still spots open for the Oct class last week. I have no idea what TEAS was because I put my school on hold when I became pregnant, but my daughter is now 3 weeks old and I'm anxious to begin. I wish I had of waited and studied but hey, it is what it is. I can take it again on the 3rd of next month which I may do. A 70 is required at PTEC so I am still eligible anyway, and the program average for the TEAS is a 74 according to my score sheet. I met a guy when I was dropping off my application who scored a 82 so considering my lack of prep and the difficulty in the test, I'm hoping I'll still get in. Also, the last of the people added to the course will get a different orientation because they're trying to get more ppl.

You should call the school you're interested in. I doubt that will be accepted though. Some schools allow people with degrees to be exempt from certain tests but ultimately its the schools decision. And chances are since the PSB test isnt what we use here they wont allow it. But hey, thats just an assumption. GL

I took my TEAS two days ago and submitted my package for the Oct class. But just a heads up the counselor at the school is on vacation and wont be reviewing the applications until the 25th. Kind of silly because the deadline is Sept 4th so she'll have alot of work to do.
