  1. So we're in the same boat? Have you heard the same thing, too? About hospitals passing over applicants with ASN RN licenses? I wish you all the best on your journey as well! :-) J
  2. Hello, I've heard that finding an RN position within the hospital setting is nearly impossible without obtaining your BSN. Can somebody tell me if this is common practice nationwide? I live in Southern California and have heard that across the board around here. HOPING it is just an urban myth but it seems not to be. I am finishing up my Pre-req's under the UC guidelines for transfer purposes but ideally, I would like to complete my ASN, obtain my RN license and work right away while completing my BSN on the side. I am a single mother and the prospect of living off of student loans without being able to suplement my income is frightening if not an impossibility. Can somebody tell me more about what the best avenues are? I have an appointment to see my counselor next month but would love feedback from those on the front lines as well as any suggestions on questions I should pose to my counselor. Many Thanks, J
  3. Hello, I'm currently work 40 hours a week while I finish up my prerequisites for the RN program. I've heard some great things about the NYU BSN program and have started to look into the transfer process. I currently live in LA, but in my travels to NYC, there's no comparisson. I've also weighed out the cons as well (harsh winters, sky-high living expenses). My main question is for anyone who is familiar with the NYU RN program itself (the full term program or accelerated 15mth program). What has been your experience...from application through the exam? GPA requirements? Aside from keeping my GPA up, are there any other items that will help my application stand-out from the others? Between lecture/clinical, studying, what is a realistic amount of time left over for part-time work? Any suggestions regarding loans/cost for the program itself & living expenses would be greatly appreciated as well. Well, I know I'll be thinking of more questions (i.e. what student family housing/services are offered) but I guess this is a start Thanks so much! Jenn
  4. Thanks so much for the direction, I'll definitely have to post on the region tab as well. And yes, you're completely right... LA is not cheap & cost of living/pay scale is probably not too far off. What school are you taking the accelerated program at if you don't mind me asking? Again, thanks for the encouraging words!! :) Jenn
