I am a brand new RN, and I was just hired with my local hospice. I will be a case manager...AND I LOVE IT! I am still orienting (only been 2 weeks). I have been so blessed to work with a HUGE organization (7,000 employees) that really take care of their staff...100% paid benefits, massage therapy, 27 days paid vacation (1st year)...list goes on. They told me that, if I need 6 months of orientation that they are willing to put the time into it. I feel so blessed. This hospice works with my school, and we did some clinicals with the hospice houses and with the home health field nurses. I have such an awesome team and preceptor is phenomenal. If anyone decided to move to South west Florida....LOOK INTO THIS ORGANIZATION!

Where are the nursing internships? How is a new graduate ever going to get experience, if no one will be willing to train them. It is frustrating and sad. I recently graduated in May, passed my boards in June and have been looking ever since. My heart goes out to the nurses who have been looking for months. I shouldn't complain, because I just graduated but all this talk of finding a job easily because you are a nurse is hog wash. I live in Southwest Florida and we have the 2nd highest foreclosure rate in the country. Our industry is made up of tourism and real estate, so you can imagine what the job market looks like. It doesn't help that so many schools are pumping out nurses, and with this economy everyone wants to be a nurse now. What is very discouraging is that new grads in other states are experiencing the same dilemma. Today a patient told me that his daughter in Boston couldn't find a job (graduated in May) (I work for an eye dr. as a receptionist), and a close friend who moved to NC after graduating just moved back to Florida because she couldn't find a job in NC. She has looked at all surrounding areas in South Florida (Orlando down to Miami) and nothing...where is the shortage? I did see on the news that because of the economy nurses who were about to retire or retired has either stayed or reentered the job market due to spouses losing jobs etc.. Sucks... =( Thank you for letting me whine. LOL

Hi...I just graduated in May, and SEVERAL of my classmates are Hospice nurses now. My area which is Southwest Florida (Fort Myers area) loves to hire new grads, other than our local hospitals they employee many of us. Many of us did our preceptorship with Hope Hospice. If you like Florida, this is an area your should consider. They have an excellent internship program, and there are so many areas you can go in other than the typical hospice houses. There is home health, nursing homes, hospice houses etc. If you like the one patient ratio then home health would be the way to go. The Hospice houses you will have at least 4 patients. I have an interview with them tomorrow for home health. It is one of the few agencies that hire new nurses for home health as well. Very few places will hire a new grad for home health. Dobutamine Standard Concentration: 500 mg/250 mL D5W (Conc. 2mg/mL) This is how I did the problem... 142lbs/2.2= 64.5kg 64.5x2=129mcg/min 129mcgx60=7740mcg/hr 7740mcg/1000=7.74mg/hr 7740mcg= ml hr 2000mcg= 3.87 rounded to 4mg/hr Now I just need to figure out mL per hour Thank you all for taking the time to help me figure this out. Hello everyone... Thank you in advance for reading my post. I am hoping someone can help me with my homework. My problem is: "Another patient in CCU who weighs 142lbs is on Dobutamine infusing at 2 mcg/kg/min. Calculate the rate in: ___mcg/hr;___mg/hr; and ___mL/hr." Now I figured out the mcg/hr=7,740 and mg/hr=4 but I am stuck on mL/hr. Can anyone help me? I would be so appreciative. Hello everyone~ I am new to this, and I want to thank everyone in advance for reading my post. I am a student and I live in Florida. My ultimate dream is to have my own home health business. I realize that I need TONS of experience as a nurse before even considering this, and I plan to do just that, but first I need some advice. I will graduate in May 2010 as a RN, and I am trying to figure out what would be the best area to gain experience and skills that I would use in my business one day. I would love to go into home health, but unfortunately they do not hire new nurses. I think I like ICU, but I want to do what ever would be best for what I plan to do. My next question is...how would one start a business of that nature? I plan to do LOTS of homework over the next couple of years, so I will be very prepared. Any info would be appreciated. Oh...I should tell you, I would like to have a Medicare/Medicaid approved business. I would be the licensed RN that would go into the homes, and maybe I would employee a LPN and definitely mostly CNAs. Any info would be MOST welcomed. Thank you, for all your insight.
