  1. The only way I am familiar with because I did it myself is that she has to "prove" her residency by working one year in the state of Texas. There might be other clauses and I am sure if you do a search on the UTA site there may be a FAQ section about this. I worked my one year and it was worth it! They did verify my status the day I went to register for classes so proof is needed. Hope this helps.
  2. Shotzie and Dplear....thanks for the information! Oh, hey Dplear I sent you a PM awhile ago, not sure if you got it as sometimes my computer doesn't always cooperate. Seriously, no pressure do not feel obligated! I swear!!!! I also was looking at the current job postings. Most nursing jobs were posted at having a salary grade=11. What would be a ballpark salary grade of 11? Any insight on shift differentials there? Just some questions if you have the time to post. I will stop posting on this topic because you all are probably bored to tears with my questions. Thanks again!
  3. Let's see, I have made progress with my decision to move back to Texas and will be relocating to Houston. I was on the webpage of Texas Childrens Hospital and saw one of their benefits was free parking. I know this is minor but how safe is the parking area. It sounds like it is in a remote location. Anyone familiar with this hospital or it's surroundings? Tried to take the Virtual Tour but it doesn't work. Doubt it would show the parking lot!! LOL! But would have been interesting to see a mini tour. Thanks alot!
  4. The cost of living is much higher here. The pay just doesn't seem to match. As the other poster said, you can expect to get that much if you are working weekend nights or maybe as agency. Where were you looking to work/live?
  5. I sent you a PM.
  6. When we lived in Austin we were in North Austin then Round Rock. If we moved back to Austin we would go to Round Rock but we have made a decision that when we go to Houston for our visit we will look specifically at Katy and The Woodlands. On the way in from Austin we would always take a drive in some areas of Katy. I don't know where for sure we were but it was somewhere right near the McDonald's with a playland off of I-10 just past Katy Mills, I think it is by Fry Rd. Cinco Ranch and Grand Lakes has our interest. Can anyone tell me which hospitals are really aggressive in recruiting right now??? Which hospitals do I want to avoid right now??? Thanks!!
  7. Dplear...your PS made my day(about the roaches). I went to this website below a long time ago. Had a good laugh with this guys story and have had the picture of this sight stuck in my head since. Anyway, thanks for clarifying that issue!!!! Also, I can vouch for your Astros game. That's how my friend does it, that's how we got season passes to SeaWorld for cheap and had a summer full of SeaWorld adventures that merely cost us the gas to and from SanAntonio. I'm serious, for just $20 we had a family season pass for the summer that also offered special drink prices and food deals. Anyway, here's that website with the roach story... http://www.keef.net/archives/000396.html
  8. Well it looks like I am leaning more and more towards Houston. Keep the input coming okay! Dplear, I hear you loud and clear. What you said pretty much sums up how I felt everytime I visited Houston. We looked at some houses over a year ago loved the Katy area and loved the Woodlands. Taking a visit in a few months. Can't wait. Got to check out schools, hospitals, housing. Everything in one week. By the way, I never saw a roach in Austin much less a flying one. Just lots of scorpions. Creepy. Especially when you have a child in the house. They blend in to the tan walls/tan carpeting so they are really hard to see. I think they are called tree bark scorpions(non-poisonous) anyway my point is to get back to the roach thing and that is that I think I heard they are called tree roaches. Ummmm, does that mean The Woodlands are going to be infested with them and they are going to be on the walls of the house and fly at me and stick to me. That happened with me and a cricket and me ever fearful of all bugs large and small went bizerk. But the bats of Austin didn't bother me a bit.
  9. Thanks! Can anyone tell me about some concerns I have about Dallas and Houston... TORNADOES in Dallas! -I am looking at living possibly in Plano/Frisco/Allen or Fying ROACHES in Houston! -I am looking at maybe living in The Woodlands Am I freaking myself out on these things or what do you all think? Any big bad sightings in these areas, any thoughts on these areas? In Austin we got scorpions and tornado warnings and hail warnings but we never got hit. Thanks again.
  10. Opinions wanted! Used to live in Austin travelled to Houston often and been to Dallas a few times. They all have great things about them. Here's my pros and cons...and really nervous about the job markets in some of them. Austin Pros: Beautiful Hill Country Medium sized, liberal town Right in the middle for drives to HOU or DFW Used to live there, familiarity is good Austin Cons: Not as many hospitals not sure what nursing market is like Not as much to do as in larger cities (museums, etc) Can be pricey for houses Dry like the dessert Dallas Pros: Loved Plano area The culture, shopping The houses Sports teams, museums, Change of seasons as compared to rest of cities Dallas Cons: Tornadoes more prevalent Houses can be pricey too Crime rates Houston Pros: Love the heat Great houses and affordable Culture, museums, sports Katy Mills, shopping,Ikea Nursing market seems favorable Great master planned communities Houston Cons: Heard about giant flying roaches(never saw them) Crime rates Anyone else confused now? Anyone have a favorite? Thanks for listening!
