  1. To apply into the MSN program at A&M, they require a BSN (unless you do RN to MSN), the application process didn't take long, the waiting to find out took forever, or so it seemed. They require official transcripts, resume, 3 letters of recommendation and an essay as to why you wish to be in the program. They do a GPA calc of the last 60 credit hours, and a 3.0 or better is required for admittance into any MSN programs at A&M. Once accepted, they require immunization records, background check, BLS card, licensure and drug screen to be completed prior to courses starting. The deadline for most of their programs is April 15, and the notices were sent out by June 30. Thanks!
  2. I'll be attending A&M in Corpus Christi, they have online MSN programs for Mgmt & Leadership, FNP and Education. The clinical portion is definitely approved in Texas :) The advisors at TAMUCC are very helpful and very nice, I would hope this goes for all A&M campuses. I've had a good experience during the application process.
  3. i see what they are telling you, but the problem is that they've been telling people (me) as recent as last week that they had everything done. the theb requires authorization for every clinical site in texas, there is no blanket authorization and because the student secures their own clinical location, i just don't see how it will be possible to be authorized until well after the clinical is done because it takes 30-45 days for each authorization to process. i'll be sticking with good ol' a&m, it may take longer, but i know my education will be worth something when i'm done. btw, here is the email we received this am stating that they have yet to apply from a so called supervisor, mike barnes. see 2nd paragraph where he tells us that in texas, they haven't even requested approval. last week they were swearing they were set to go in the state and the program was approved. just beware..... "i am emailing you the information you requested per the phone message that you left on my phone today. with regards to the practicum in the state of texas, i was able to receive an answer that in fact we are not yet approved to conduct field placements in the state. we have also yet to apply. having said that, i found that we were awaiting a response from one last agency in the state in order to complete and submit our application. the response from the respective agency came last week. we are in compliance with regards to any deadline to submit our application and will be doing so shortly in order to comply with one of the requirements for our graduates to practice as an np in the state of texas. please let me know if you would like to discuss this situation further. i will be more than happy to discuss your options as well as how this might impact you. i appreciate you bringing this to my attention, mike thank you, [color=#548dd4]michael barnes enrollment manager laureate, inc. walden university/the national hispanic university walden toll free: 866-492-5336, ext. *33317 nhu toll free: 877-534-6648 direct phone: 210-408-3317 email: [email protected] fax: 210-408-3499"
  4. This college is very fraudulent and they are misleading students. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is!
  5. I just wanted to say that I spoke with the Texas BON on 8/2/12 and per the BON, the college that is supervising/offering clinicals (even if the student secures their own site) MUST be authorized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to have clinicals in Texas, they must obtain authorization for EACH site used in the state of Texas. Walden is NOT authorized nor have they applied for authorization for any site in Texas, emailed and spoke with the THECB regarding this matter myself. According to the THECB and BON, the clinicals performed, will be completely invalid and you will NOT be allowed to sit for boards. I notified my advisor of this and they've yet to provide me with any answer, except that they'll check into it. They pushed and pushed me to withdraw from my currently MSN program and join theirs but I researched the heck out of everything the BON told me to and found this out, just in time. BEWARE Texas residents and other states, make sure you check your BON requirements, they are being very fraudulent with the information and not telling students the truth.
  6. It doesn't require any campus visits, however, I did speak with the Texas BON and they stated that the program must meet and teach all subjects required (which it does) and be CCNE certified (which it is) AND be approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, which Walden IS NOT. This means the clinicals won't count and we won't be allowed to sit for apn boards. I have contacted Walden regarding this and they don't have an answer for me yet, but are trying to find out what to do. The THECB said that Walden must submit an application for authorization for each clinical site used in the state of Texas in order for the clinical portion to be valid. Will post more once I hear from Walden. Very disappointed to say the least. Below is the email I received from the BON telling me what to check for: "Thank you for your inquiry to the Board of Nursing. If your goal is to be authorized to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN) in Texas, it will be important for you to study the requirements in Rule 221.3 Education. This rule may be accessed on the Board web page (www.bon.texas.gov) under Nursing Law & Rules. This will help you determine if the program has the essential courses to meet Texas requirements. Rule 221.2 lists the titles and roles recognized by the Texas Board. One of the requirements is for the graduate program to hold nursing accreditation by CCNE or NLNAC. If you are resident in Texas and plan to take an online program, you might inquire about how they conduct their clinicals and how they arrange the supervision, if you are planning to carry out the clinical requirements in Texas. When a program conducts clinicals in Texas, they must receive approval from The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to operate in Texas. The Texas Board does not have purview over graduate nursing programs so we do not have a list of approved programs on our web site. CCNE and NLNAC both list the accredited programs on their web sites. If you have further questions, please let me know. Thank you."
  7. Hi, I'm from Texas as well and will be in the program starting in September if I can get confirmation from the Tx BON about being an approved program. Has anyone gotten this yet? Help! I've called and emailed but it sometimes takes a week to hear back from them.
  8. I had a similar situation, family life and lots of working got in the way of perfect grades through my ADN degree and even though My BSN grades were good, they weren't all A's, so my GPA ended up being a 2.95 and I wasn't accepted into the original MSN program I wanted for this fall. I was able to write an appeal letter after I found out my GPA was below the required grade and explain my circumstances and was allowed into the other MSN program, to which I applied. The advisors will help you, call them. Just make sure to submit the appeal letter with your application or to the advisor, don't wait until you get wait listed, like I did. Good luck!!
  9. Thank you very much!!
  10. I just signed up to take the Excelsior CPNE and am very nervous, I'm a good student and have been fortunate to not have to study much but from what I've read, the CPNE is torture! Any advice or tips would be most helpful. I'm hoping to take it in Wisconsin or Ohio...go figure because I live in Dallas....but have heard the Tx sites have very high failure rates. Thanks in advance!!
