Does the perfect program exist for me?!?!
What do you know about the nursing programs available in Utah? Which have good NCLEX passing rates, reasonable tuition or scholarships available, accredidation, no waiting list, on-site daycare or night classes and unicorns that poop gumdrops (said with sarcasm)? A perfect fit seems impossible to find for this almost 40 mom of toddlers! Time is not on my side so SLCC's long waiting list might not be the way to go for me, however, my pre-reqs are officially done and I can apply in a couple of weeks. The current wait is 2 1/2 years! I have a 3.66 overall GPA and likely a 3.8 or better pre-req GPA, though I haven't actually calculated it (got As w/ one A-). Any advice?

Broke 2 year contract
Couldn't they actually sue you for more than just your last paycheck for your breach of contract?

What do you know about Dixie State's RN program?
I'm considering applying to Dixie State's nursing program. Does anyone have any advice they can share regarding admissions, competition, tuition, NCLEX passing rates, or other information that would be helpful? I will be applying to SLCC's program at the end of the month, but am looking in to other programs that I may be able to get into more quickly. Brief education background: I have an associates degree from SLCC and all prerequisites will be complete by mid-December. My overall GPA is roughly 3.4, however, my prequisite GPA is likely a 3.8 or higher. Any pointers to help this confused momma is appreciated. By the way, I should mention I have 3 year old twin boys. Will that be simply too much to handle? How many days per week is nursing school typically?

Nursing schools along the Wasatch Front
Let's say time and money were not an issue... Where would you go and why? SLCC with a 2.5 year waiting list, but alot less expensive than other programs? Utah Career College for $65,000 (yes, that is what I was told over the phone recently)? Ameritech with questionable NCLEX pass rates? Provo College? I know little about this school. Any info is appreciated! UVU? Is the program still extremely difficult to get in to? Am I more likely to be hired from one school vs. another? Will I struggle to pass the licensing exam graduating from a "tech" school? So many options, so much red tape... HELP!!!

Ameritech recently
As I posted in another thread, I am looking to use the next couple of years (before my twins go to school) getting my nursing degree. I inquired about the nursing program at Ameritech (filled out the online form), but they want to make an appointment for a tour of the facility etc. I'm not interested in the hoopla, I just want the information. Have any of you spoken with them recently? How long is the program? How much does it cost? I have an Associates Degree from SLCC already. Does that count for anything? In years past their NCLEX pass rates have been less than stellar, however, their website says their February '09 grads had a 90(something)% pass rate. How can this be verified? I'd love to hear from recent graduates or those currently in the program to see how things have changed/improved. Finally, what does their accreditation (or lack of) mean for employment, BSN, etc.? Thanks in advance for any info you can give!

Is nursing still a good career choice?
I am a 37 y.o. stay-at-home mom to 21 month old twins. For years I have wanted to be a nurse, but the time commitment of school was always a barrier as I worked full-time. Recently, I've been considering using this time before the twins go to school full time to get my nursing degree (RN). That way, when they are ready to start school, I am ready to start my career! I'm glad I found this board, but to be honest, it has been a little disheartening to read that nurses are having difficulty getting jobs around here (SLC). To pull this off with babies will be a chore to say the least, but I'm willing to do it for the payoff in the end. However, it seems like I may have missed the boat since I really am not open to leaving the state at this point. What are your thoughts on future prospects? Trying to accomplish this with two little ones? I do have an Associates Degree from SLCC. Does this help with my schooling at all? Thanks all for your input!! I look forward to hearing from those in the trenches.
