  1. Thanks for opening up this thread and for these comments - I am actually very new to the field, and was just offered a 7P - 7A position in local hospital. First job out of the gate, training was in LTC, so this seems like a dream, but I don't know what it's like or what to expect (of work life or social life) working 3 (night) 12's per week. Husband and one almost grown child. Your comments are so very welcome!!!
  2. Well, I am just finishing up CNA training, am 49, left the corporate world in a state of burn-out, and love this new training. I just received first job offer as patient care tech for very well regarded local hospital. No, it is definitely not too late! My particular training course was 9 weeks long, part time, so you could actually work while in training. The money is not as great as corporate, but the gratification is! My opinion - go for it!
  3. Good point - and now I am glad to have decided on the 9-week program, giving me plenty of time to study and to volunteer. Thanks for that, miiszkim0711!
  4. I've looked into several local programs ranging from 3 weeks solid (5 days/week) to 16 weeks (every Saturday). Personally, I'd prefer the shorter course so I can begin to work sooner, but the one I would like is full - waiting list only. A nurse friend recently advised me to check as many out as possible - and that I would know when I found the right place, by the feel of the staff, the environment, location, and just plain gut instinct. The costs: range anywhere from $600 - $1700 for the courses in my area. They are all state approved nurse aide training programs. What it boils down to is simple, for me: I am a mid-life career changer who wants to be a CNA, it's where my passion is, where it probably always has been but has finally made itself clear. I'll do what is needed for my certification, and will be the best that I can be. :heartbeat
