hey everyone, I discovered this post and have been finding it incredibly helpful. My background is actually in public health and I decided to go back to become a nurse to become an FNP so I can work one on one with patients focused on chronic disease while also helping out with initiatives with a local health dept. It's been something i've always wanted to do and I've appreciated what FNPs do for their patients. Now that I'm in nursing school and am almost done with my maternity/women's health rotation, I can't believe this is happening, but I'm actually really enjoying it and the material I'm studying is incredibly interesting to me. So much so, I am considering making this a top choice for my preceptorship and apply to a WHNP program after. To all those out there, considering that I know a lot more on the generalized FNP route, if someone can give a little more insight (esp in California) on WHNP or CNM? I know what each does but I wanted to really talk to one to see if this would be a specialty area I want to pursue compared to the FNP that I've always wanted to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

We're currently on the last week of our first semester! It's been a whirlwind because it goes by fast. I think it depends, some of my classmates did and others didn't. I chose to repeat anatomy and physiology just so that it's not foreign. Patho is important to take, but if you've already taken it, it's ok. I'm doing decent in the class for ABSN. I think the key to the ABSN program is time management, because you're always busy and utilizing resources. Feel free and private message me if you have other questions. :)

It depends on how much you want to spend. I already had mine from 10 years past (yes they still took them!) but you can check out UC Berkeley Extension and see if they do. I did my physiology prereq there since mine was a little old just for a refresher. :) Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions! I'm already in the program

Probably worthwhile to maybe give them a call to see if there's an update, especially as it's mid-October. They're pretty quick when it comes to responding, hoping you can get this resolved!

Not sure if it's premature, but wanted to see would people be open to something like that? I just have to figure out how to start one since I've never started a group before, but I'm open to it if others are as well!

Yeah!! I was beginning to wonder if there were any ABSN folks for Sac. :) Congrats to all who are hearing word and for those still waiting!! Holding out hope for you all, especially those waiting for San Mateo! :D So exciting! ^_^!!!
