Thanks for posting your insight into this. It does make sense to have a nurse who is crosstrained to do other duties like you mentioned and still make a nurse's salary. If they were paid for two positions...what would be the point in that? Better off hiring another person to do the crosstraining duties alone (minimize errors,etc. but more $$$ to dish out[salary,benefits,etc.]).

Is it possible for a nurse to work as a nurse and a imaging technician,respiratory therapist, and/or nurse anthes.? I remember in the past going to small clinical outpatient facilities that did imaging and were visibly short staffed. That got me wondering... Basically two jobs or sets of duties at one present time(shift)?

I am currently an LPN student who is considering taking the LPN to BSN program at one of the two more prominent schools that offer such a program (Exlcesor or Indaian State University). I did my research over July 4th weekend, so I have not been able to contact those schools. I have a restless curiousity >_>. I have searched the depths of these boards...read many, many page threads and scoured the internet for answers. I frequently come to this site for questions regarding nursing ( Through my research, I have potentially concluded two concepts on this subject! Online LPN to BSN programs duration is based upon how many general ed prereqs you completed beforehand. Also, since it is online based...you can go through the curriculum at your 'own pace'. Some people I have read it takes them 1-1.5 years...some 2 years starting from lpn (scratch) all the way to getting their BSN from said institution. Is this really so? I read Excelsior's web page and noticed that they proclaim strongly that the curriculum is done at 'your own pace'. How long has it taken you folks who have enrolled in these LPN to BSN programs? Regarding the legitmacy of these two programs, I am wondering how credible these online degrees are. I know Excelsior was given a designation by the NLN and ISU is NLNAC accredited(which from experience I know is tough). Also ISU is 'recognized/approved' by a mjority of the US. But in regards to say employment, applying for an MSN program (at a school whose delivery is not online), and/or potentially graduate school (business,law,etc). Please do not kill my thread admins . I reviewed the stickies and other threads. Those mostly contain information regarding the curriculum that students are currently taking in those programs. I need a broader understanding of these programs .
