  1. yes, my preceptor is extremely nice and an excellent nurse and she is telling me that I am doing great and she assures me she would let me know if I werent. She also lets me know the areas I need improvement. I guess I am just used to hitting the ground running I have never been in a position where it is taking me so long to adjust. Also I have the habbit of comparing myself to others and all the other orientees seem to be doing better than myself and out of our group I am the one with the least experience. I am going to keep giving my all though because it is something I truly want!
  2. OMG thanks so much chin up for the encouragement!! I so needed to hear that, I am trying really hard to be a great er nurse and I know I can do it, encouraging words go such a long way! I need to just get a good system going and stop second guessing myself so much. I also need to just jump right in the next code that comes through the doors! Thanks again I will take a deep breath and face another day. :):)
  3. Thanks so much for the encouragement, I hope you are right because I really do love working in the er! I will keep trying and hopefully it will all come together for me soon :crying
  4. Hi all! ok its been 7weeks of orientation I can only mangage about 3 to 4 pts. and not always effectively and sometimes my preceptor has to jump in and help me out.when a true emergency comes in I feel like I still dont know quite what to do! I really love the er but I am afraid that my coworkers will see me as this new nurse (just graduated in Dec.10 ) who is just not catching on! I feel so out of place most days like I am in the way. I am constantly questioning my preceptor on the orders I am putting in, gosh she must be sick of me. Most days I feel like crying, and I feel like I am just never going to be a great er nurse. Any advice from you on how I can improve would greatly be appreciated. thanks so much!
  5. I'm in Southern NJ too starting February 14th!
  6. I am waiting for my offer letter which I am sure will outline in detail I was just curious, thanks! I do know I have a 3 year contract with a sign on bonus and the rates for my shift were discussed as well just wasnt sure if during my "training" would be paid but I am sure once I receive my letter I will find out. Thanks to all for your answers. Th
  7. Just wanted to say congrats on the new job!!! I too am a new grad starting an ED job Feb. 14th!!! its all I have been obsessing over so excited yet so scared! Will I catch on quickly? I am hoping to love it as its been a dream of mine for years! Good luck and God Bless!
  8. Thank you!
  9. Ok stupid I know but in my excitement in being hired to ED as a new grad, I never really got a true knowledge as to whether or not the 12 weeks of training is paid or not. I think it is however now too embarrassed to ask. Anyone who has gone thru ed training was it paid time? Thanks to all!
  10. thanks again to everyone for making me feel really good about my decision to start ED nursing. I have a quick question for all of you if I may. I was wondering how long it took you to not feel like you stuck out like a sore thumb as the new grad who knows nothing lol?
  11. Thank you all for the encouragement! I am going to go for it, whats the worse that can happen (dont answer that lol) I dont have a problem getting along with the younger generation most are surprised to learn my age so hopefully I will fit in ok. Thanks again I know it will be hard but I am going to keep praying, learning and improving my skills.
  12. Hi all! I am a new grad, I passed the NCLEX in Dec. I was offered a job in ER with a 12 weeks training program longer if I need it. I was also offered a position at a sub acute rehab. I am not sure which position I should take, I have always had an intrest in ER nursing but I am doubting myself partiallly because I am an older nurse (40) and maybe at this stage I should be looking into different areas of nursing?? I am physically fit no worries there about keeping pace, I guess just worried about my lack of experience I've never put in a line, Idk any advice will be appreciated thank you.
  13. Thanks for the answer, I am extrremely disappointed to hear that! I was hoping that I would get a variety of patients young and old, but its a job and alot of new grads dont have that so I'm grateful. Its a brand new rehab so maybe management will bring in some actual rehab patients. I know I know wishfful thinking lol thanks
  14. Hello I am just wondering, I am a recent grad and was offered a job at a subacute rehab facility. I have worked LTC as an LPN and was really hoping to "spread my wings" a little once I obtained my Rn degree. I have never worked in subacute rehab and was just wondering if it is just going to be more like LTC. I know jobs are hard to come by and I dont want to turn it down I am just curious if I am pigeon holing myself to same type of work. Thanks so much
  15. Thanks so much! What a journey its been now I cant wait to sign my first official document as an RN lol thanks again!
