Anything around Vanderbilt is safe. Anything around st Thomas west is safe. Bellevue area is safe. Parts of east Nashville are ok, but some are still sketchy depending on where you are.

Does anyone have any experience or know how the wait list works? I paid 600 dollars a couple months ago and haven't received much information since. I have to potentially take a chemistry class this summer for another school, which is a class that Union doesn't require:/

Ladyultimate would you mind telling me why you don't know if you would recommend the program? I am on the wait list for another school (Union) and just trying to weigh out my options.

That's great! I'm sure any of those departments would be great to work in. Just getting the opportunity to work at a hospital is exciting for me. Good luck with the new position! I start my orientation on the 8th.

Oh really? I applied there too, but I only saw a candidate bank for Harborview and the only position at UW med was in diagnostics or something. Maybe I'll have to check that again. So you had a phone interview as well, maybe that is just standard procedure for all of them then. I didn't know that. I wonder how much of a chance you have at getting hired after passing that and going to the on site interview. My interview is actually at Stevens Hospital up in Edmonds.

Yeah! I am applying to hospitals in Seattle and on the eastside. Did you apply for the float position at UW or for a particular department?

Good luck! I also have an interview at a hospital. Mine is on Wednesday. I already went through a phone interview and they ask you a lot of the standard questions (why do you want to work here, name a time you dealt with a difficult situation how did you handle it etc etc). I would guess that they would also want to know about your ability to work in a fast paced environment. I don"t know about you, but I currently work in assisted living which is not that fast paced, but just come up with some good examples of quick learning or something like that. I hope you get the job!

We had the "patient" lying down for hand and foot washing. We had to wash our hands first thing before touching anything, but maybe that was because the handwashing was in the bathroom. So it probably depends on the facility. Hope that helps! Don't stress out about it too much it's really not that bad. Good luck!

Hi everyone, I know there was a US to UK thread on here before but is gone for the moment so I was hoping someone could help me. I have an odd situation anyway. I am a citizen of the EU, but have been in the US most of my life and am currently finishing my last year of undergrad studies here in global health. I would like to study nursing in the UK, preferably through the kings college florence nightingale school of nursing. Do i need to live in the UK for three years in order to apply as everyone has said even though I have EU citizenship? How competitive are the programs over there? I appreciate your responses, I already emailed the school but they haven't gotten back to me yet! STephanie

A BSN is better than an ADn in my opinion as well, but this thread was mostly for people who dislike UW to express their opinions. It's not about ADN vs BSN. That is one disagreement that can never be won, judging from other threads like it haha. Also, there are definitely other schools in the state of WA that you can get a BSN. WHo cares where people go, just as long as they are happy with their choice that's all that matters.

i think you can get an intellectually challenging experience elsewhere, not just UW.

I have not heard of any BSN program that wouldn't require chem and statistics. Chem is a basic requirement for any nursing program, and statistics is a requirement for pretty much all BSNs; at least that is what my school told me. Don't you have to take those two classes before you even start a BSn degree?? If not, that is news to me too. I would take those two classes before you go inot nursing school if possible, because you will probably need it. You can throw in a class that isnt required, but would still be helpful like a psychology class to make your load fulltime. I think nursing school is hard as it is, taking those classes w/ nursing classes might bog you down, especially if you will have a full load already. I am not sure how online programs work though and if you're a hard worker I'm sure you can make it work. Good luck!

hey, yeah I'm doing medical anthropology and global health so i def think it will help in nursing. I am just gonna stick it out and then do nursing after, i couldnt imagine not graduating after i've been at my school for so long already. good luck to you!

Thanks! I have actually been looking into applying at UW med center, I will take my certification test to be a CNA june 28th. Is it pretty hard to find a job at a hospital right off the bat though? That job you described sounds perfect! I am involved in a lot of extracurriculars as well, it would be hard to balance the two!

Yeah it depends on location too. I can't move and here in the seattle area I haven't heard of any accelerated BSN programs that I can think of off the top of my head. I've just heard of the master's ones which I wouldn't want to do. I'm assuming you are from Cali because of your user name, have you heard anything about a john f. kennedy university in the bay area? I read on the UCSF website that if you go there for BSN you can automatically get into UCSF for the masters program. Seems life a sweet deal since UCSF is ranked very highly in nursing, but I haven't found out too much info about the program or even if that school is any good. That's the only program I would look at for out of state if even that. But sounds like you are applying to some great schools! Good luck!

I go there currently and am a global health major, and they raised the tuition to almost $3,000 a quarter. I was trying to decide whether I should change my major and keep going there or just get my BA and then do the ADN after that. I guess when I started hearing such great things about shoreline I wanted to see if it was true because that would have pretty much made my decision for me.

I am pretty much in the same boat as you! I am an undergrad at UW studying the global health concentration in anthropology (figured that major would help me somewhat when I go into nursing). I recently decided to go pre-nursing and am also probably going to opt for the ADN after I graduate. DO you know where you will go yet? I figure if I really end up needing the BSN later on, I can always go to UW Bothell for a year. I believe you can work while you go there because the classes are only one day a week! I wouldn't consider doing the accelerated program at UW seattle, I have been going there for a couple years now and don't really like the atmosphere. I actually realized I prefer smaller schools haha.

thanks for the input! but what about UW bothell? also, i know a lot of people have had to apply to UW twice, even three times to get accepted and i for sure do not have that kind of time....i wonder what people who don't get accepted do, i know there's a lot of them. there is always the private schools like seattle u but those are sooo expensive!

i've actually had quite a few people tell me that shoreline graduates are what employers are looking for because they have more clinical hours, but looking at applications at hospitals almost all of them say bsn preferred. i know shoreline is also really competitive, but if what i hear is true i would much rather go for the adn and save the thousands of dollars than go to UW. if i feel i need it, they have a adn to bsn program at UW bothell. i assume they would not discriminate between uw bothell and uw seattle, but who knows... does anyone who actually works as an RN know if this is true and if there is a preference for a bsn?? also anyone done the program at shoreline cc? thanks !:nuke:

does anyone know anything about the JFK university adn to bsn program, i guess they have some sort of arrangement with UCSF that if you get a bsn there you can get your msn at UCSF?? i can't find a whole lot of info on this through either of their websites. is it hard to get in? is it a respectable program? thanks for the help!

I have thought about the accelerated program and they do have one, i am kind of uneasy though about packing 4 years of schooling into two, plus, i dont think i would want an MSN right off the bat, and this is what the accelerated program offers. i know i probably should finish out the degree, its just hard because i kind of see it as a step backwards from my goals. i am sure though that i can learn something from this degree that i can take with me to nursing school.
