  1. Hi I've been living in the UK for the last few years and am now returning to Texas. As I'm an LVN, I've not been able to nurse while in the UK. I have been working in a healthcare setting in a different capapcity though and have tried to keep my nursing knowledge up to date indirectly and I've also taken CEU's. I don't think I have to take a refresher course because my license hasn't been inactive but I've not practiced nursing since 2005. I'm a bit nervous over what awaits me back in the States. Does anyone know of anyone or have personal experiences of being out of nursing for a bit and then getting a job without taking a refresher course. I'm willing to be tested by a potential employer so they can see my skills are still there. Are hospitals willing to take you on as perhaps a new grad and give you an extended orientation? I wish I could have come back to the States sooner but this was the first opportunity for me to do so. Thanks in advance
  2. Hi All I'm mostly a lurker here but chime in every once in a while. I have been living out of the country now for a few years and am planning a move back to the States in the next year. I'm a bit nervous that I'll get hired anywhere (I'm currently an LVN). I've not worked at a nurse since moving but work in the healthcare field and have kept my license up to date. I did leave nursing once before and managed to get hired after a 4 year break but had remained in Texas that whole time. I'm wondering would rehab hospitals and nursing homes be my best best? What about those little urgent care places? Also, it seems like there are more choices in schools now. The Dallas Nursing Institute (I think that's what it's called) is new or at least I hadn't heard of it a few years ago. I'm hoping there are more options to bridge as I was in the process of doing that when I moved. Honestly, I'm pretty nervous about moving back and starting over but hope it won't be too bad.
  3. That's really good to know. In Texas, it doesn't matter really if you're already an LVN as far as I know. I would have to take all my pre-req's as it's been longer than 5 years and then apply like everyone else and hope my grades are good enough to get me in in a timely fashion.
  4. Thanks for that info. I'll need to look deeper into that. It would be nice to be placed based on skills.
  5. Hi All I've been lurking for a bit but decided to go ahead and ask my question(s). I am a nurse in Texas but currently living out of the country. I am planning to move back to the States where I want to bridge from my LVN to my RN. My questions are.........would it be better to bridge in Texas before moving to Oregon? Can someone recommend any good schools to bridge at please? TIA!
