I am a new grad RN that recently received a job offer in the OR at a really awesome magnet hospital in Durham North Carolina. Yes, that one! The hours are 6:45 AM to 5:15 PM. I was unable to except the position because my husband works from 6 AM to 2 PM and we have three school age children at home. I was then told that they really want me there and they are willing to except me in the March cohort. Being an OR nurse is my first choice and it is the reason I went to nursing school. However, due to Covid I’m starting to realize that maybe the OR no longer fits my lifestyle. March seems like it’s far away but let’s be honest this Covid situation doesn’t seem like it’s getting better anytime soon. It seems as though maybe clinic nursing or ambulatory nursing is my best bet because the hours are closer to normal business hours which would make it easier for me to find a sitter. I’m so lost now and so depressed because my heart is not in those positions. So here’s my question, what if I take an ambulatory position from 8 to 5 for the next year or two hoping that the country goes back to some sort of normalcy would I then be able to join a new to the OR program even though I technically would not be a new nurse after a year or two? Does anyone else have any better ideas or options that I could entertain? I’m open to all suggestions. Thanks!

It's a a diploma Nusing program. Even if you have all prerequisites you still have to take 18 credit hours with the school. When taking prerequisites you can do online and evenings on campus for Nursing I'm not sure because I haven't made it that far yet but yes the hours do change

Hey!! I got the background check back 1st- it took about 2 days, but I live right here is Durham so thye didn't have to mail it to far. Getting all of my transcripts in took the longest because one of my schools really dropped the ball. After everything was received it only took about a week to get the final acceptance. Good Luck!

Looking at the breakdown of my test scores...I did great on my verbal, and non verbal but I didnt do so well in math. Was there anyone that just skipped the math problems and still did well? Just curious.

Hopefully I can but there is a lot of non sense that you have to go thru in order to get in the Nursing portion. For example, lets say I have 30 points after I finish my pre reqs. If you have 31 points, then you knock me out and I have to try again next year.

Ok.....so I got my results back yesterday and I got a 76 and a 32. So I have to retake one part again (Academic Aptitude). The math part was really sucky for me I really don't want to pay and take it again. Maybe I'll just stay in the school I'm already in.

I work in Apex and I give you sooo much respect for being able to tolerate such a small town. Then again, I'm originally from NJ so I don't I'll ever get used to this "southern setting". Maybe I should have relocated to Charlotte....LOL

I guess your right. It's just that there is so much competition the smallest thing could hurt you I would imagine; but I'm still thinking POSITIVE!

Thanks Red! Monday will be exactly 2 weeks so I'm counting down. The only part I'm nervous about is my background check because I got a DWI in 2006 I hope it doesn't hurt my chances. They could decide that I'm to irresponsible and deny me. I'm still keeping the faith!

Thanks LadyL! They should just give you the results the same day instead of putting you through the agony of waiting.

Hi All, I just took my test on April 4th. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I actually feel pretty good about it. I'm super anxious waiting to hear the results. They say it will be 2 weeks, but has anyone gotten back their results sooner? Wish me luck!!!!

Can you use a calculator for the test?
