I'm not sure if anyone could answer your question but what I can tell you is that you'll never get in if you don't try. If you don't get in this year, figure out how to make yourself a more appealing candidate and try again next year. Also, if you don't have your heart set on OHSU, apply to other schools too. There's a lot of good schools in the PDX area. Good luck!

I noticed your lonely posting with no replies so I thought I'd share what I know about OHSU. You're right, OHSU is really competitive - it's simply a great school. Here's what I found when I applied for admission this year. While the paperwork that I submitted really only considered the prereqs, I was also required to supply ALL college transcripts (long story short I found that out the hard way) so I'm GUESSING that IF it came down to a tiebreaker, overall GPA MIGHT play some role, but like I said, that's just a guess. The other piece of the admission process is a proctored essay. It wasn't a big deal and it's nothing you can study for. The questions were confidential so I can't share them but I don't think it would upset anyone if I said that the focus of the various questions was to highlight why the applicant should be chosen by OHSU. As for me, I can tell you that I was selected as an alternate (they don't supply a ranking so I don't know exactly where I fit in the overall list) and I had all prereq's complete with a 4.0 and an overall GPA of 3.99 so as you can see it's not just GPA. I should also tell you that for personal reason I could only attend the Portland campus, and as you might suspect, it's the most competitive of all. Maybe if I could have attended one of the other Oregon locations I might have been accepted but I really couldn't do that. Probably the more flexible your can be, the better your chances on getting in. BTW, the other locations are great! If you haven't already done so you might want to check into the OCNE program. In a nutshell it's a joint program between some of our local community colleges and OHSU. Essentially if you're accepted into the community college program you're guaranteed acceptance into OHSU for the last year of nursing school and graduate with a BSN from OHSU. In fact, many of the clinicals for the community college students are held at OHSU. It's also a VERY competitive process and probably receives as many if not more applications than the OHSU program. Thank you! I think I'll just stick with my home desktop. I'm curious which drug guide you chose (e.g. Davis, Lippincott's, etc.) as well as which PDA your using (e.g. Palm, Iphone, Blackberry, etc.). Also, if you had it do it all again, would you have still chosen the PDA you did or do you wish you would have chosen a different one now? Thank you again for your comments. They were extremely helpful. Are you off to OHSU next year?

CCCRN2b, et al. - Given that you're pretty much done with the program at CCC, I thought you'd be a good person to give me a little guidance/advice on a question I have. I'm wondering if you think that having a laptop computer provides much value during the program. Personally I've always been a desktop guy but whenever I've been at the Harmony campus it seems as if I see a lot of nursing students with laptops. Any thoughts you have on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Also, I'd be interested in your comments about any other tools (like a PDA) that you've found to be helpful (either to you or which you believe have helped others in your cohort). To everyone that was accepted at CCC, congrats, and if you get a chance, please introduce yourselves at orientation as I'd love to put faces to our screen names. I'm really easy to spot. Just look for the short bald guy with a salt & pepper beard. Looking forward to meeting you all and to two years of what I think will be a lot of fun (despite all the work).

Looks like the letters are out early as I just got mine. I'm in! I've got my fingers crossed for all of you. I'll watch for your replies and hopefully we'll all be meeting at orientation!

Just so I'm clear, they said they'd get the letters out "around" Wednesday so that means we probably won't see them until Friday or Saturday.

Hi Zinger - When my interview was over I asked when we should expect results and the instructors told us that they plan on having the letters out "around" Wednesday the 3rd. I interviewed on Wednesday in the one o'clock session and I don't think you were in my group. Sounds like we're in the same boat as far as the CCC/MHCC thing! I'd really prefer CCC since it's only about 15 minutes from my house verses the 45 minutes for MHCC. Best of luck to you!

I agree. The questions were really pretty straightforward. Of course it seemed like the minute I finished answering, other things would flood into my mind that I wish I would've added. The only thing I wish would have been just a little different related to the written portion. I wish I had a couple of extra minutes for that section because I had the hardest time finding the location of the silly delete key (which I use a lot) on those laptops. Oh well, I'll just cross my fingers and hope it was enough. BTW, if anyone is interested, I'd logged onto the interview signup page at about 7:25 yesterday morning and it looks like they had 99 people sign up for interviews. As always, good luck to all.

tejon- congrats! I just picked up my letter and I've been invited to interview too. I'm curious to know what the cut-off point was for an interview this year but I don't want to bother the poor admissions person by asking since she's probably totally exhausted from getting us to this point! Good luck with your interview and let me know if you hear what the cut point was.

Last years interview cut off was 51 points but who knows where it'll be this year.

I applied at Clark and still haven't heard yet. I certainly could be wrong but I thought they said that letters wouldn't come out until the first week of June. Hang in there and good luck.

I have an interview on next Tuesday (12th of May) and my point score as I calculated it was 59 but I have no idea what MHCC calculated it to be since it wasn't listed in the letter I received. Does anyone know if we'll eventually be told what the "official" score was that MHCC claculated for us? Good luck to everyone!
