  1. Hi MandaAnda, I do realise that if I was child qualified or dual qualified I would have a better chance , but all the neonatal jobs i have looked at say either adult or child RN I am going to ring the NICU at Dewsbury where I'm having my placement at the moment and ask if I can go on there for a few weeks (I'm on CCU for 11 more weeks) I have got a job offer for Orthopedics at Dewsbury to start in September so I will have to take that and look out for jobs on NICU- this hospital trust do a transfer scheme after 6 months which may be possible?? I will definatly get on bank as a HCA and bank on NICU if possible.... or if not on Maternity (which would cover pre and post natal care of mother and baby)??? Thanks for the advice Fozzy- I agree that where ever you work the support and training needs to be there, as long as you are passionate about the area and willing to learn!
  2. Thanks Fozzybear! will let you know
  3. I can normally go onto other areas for about a week without consulting the uni placement officer
  4. 11 weeks left of course!!! and its all on this placement (CCU) so I could definatly try to go onto NICU for a few weeks
  5. Would I Neonatal directly or go to my placement officer at uni??
  6. yeah I'm on my elective ward now! we were told to pick an adult ward, i was told we couldnt have a child ward or neonatal as the child branch needed the placements, but I could possibly go on for a week or so if i asked??
  7. Manchester?? will look for job vacancys there are a couple of local hospitals with small NICU's, what would be the best way to contact them?, I know there are no vacancys advertised at the moment but there may be in the future... there is actually a NICU at Desbury hospital where I'm on placement at the moment, I'm on CCU, do you think they would let me go down as a student?
  8. I would if you could offer me a job!, it would mean moving my family so may take a bit of consideration.....hmm.... how long does it take to commute from Leeds to Liverpool!?
  9. Hi, no I'm doing the adult branch nursing, I was planning to go on to do my midwifery training...now I'm seriously considering it!! as I cant do a neonatal post grad degree unless I get a job on one I think i will either do my midwifery or peads and then hopefully go into neonatal?? this also has the advantage of being dual qualified..Ive been offered a job on orthopedics but really don't fancy this area
  10. Didn't get the job too many people applied with more experience.... not sure what to do now??, how do I get the experience?
  11. Hi everyone, I am a student nurse and qualify in september I live in the UK and have recently applied for a job on the NICU at my local hospital, well I went for a look round last week and Ive just found out today that Ive got an interview on 2nd June!!!!!! I just need a little advice.... The job description says no experience is required but an genuine enthusiasm for the department is essential.... well I have no experience in neonatal but I applied for midwifery before my nursing, would it be an advantage to mention this? I'm soooo passionate about this area of nursing and couldnt imagine working anywhere else, any interview advice would be appriciated Thanks!
  12. Hi Fozzybear18, I have tried to PM you but it won't allow me to! I live near Leeds but am unable to travel as I have 2 children There are 6 hospitals in this area that I'm able to travel to so hopefully if I don't get the post Ive applied for another job may become avaliable, Thanks for the reply
  13. Hi everyone, I live in the UK and I'm a 3rd year student nurse and I'm almost qualified, I have applied for a staff nurse position on a neonatal unit, and if I'm lucky enough to get it I hope to continue on to do a post graduate qualification in neonatal nursing while working in this area, Ive always wanted to work in this area and actually applied to do my midwifery training before my nurse training, unfortunatly there were not enough places, any advice would be appriciated
