2 Days in and the doubt is seeping in...need to vent
Thanks for the comment. I'm kind of freaking out and doubting myself a lot today because I'm not loving class and it's making me even doubt if I want to be an LVN. I don't know what to do and how to turn this around. When did class get really interesting and draw you in?

Southern California Thread
I don't know where you are located in Southern California but Belmont Village is opening a new facility in Westwood and is hiring LVNs. I think there was actually a job fair for it. Good luck with your search . Today class is so boring . We are learning hand washing techniques (though important).

2 Days in and the doubt is seeping in...need to vent
Thanks. I was pre-med many years ago in college so I have some science background. I also have some good tutors on medicine from my family that I can call upon.

2 Days in and the doubt is seeping in...need to vent
Thanks a bunch. It actually does help. You are right that I shouldn't care what other people are doing and that it's too early to judge. I guess the point I'm still hung up on is whether or not this is the kind of care I want to provide to help people. I think it is and I am interested in medicine.... but at the same time I'm not sure.

2 Days in and the doubt is seeping in...need to vent
Ok I need some serious advice here. I am 2 days into my program and I've already felt doubt about being here. Part of what brought me to the program is the economy. My field of social services (gerontology) got hit hard so I decided to go to LVN school (kind of on a whim but not really). I had been out of work for 6 months and needed a change. Today I took a 10 question quiz on Foundations of Nursing (our first quiz) and only scored 7. It's curved because everyone did so poorly. I am just really shaken by this first quiz since this is supposed to be the easiest of everything we will learn. I actually studied hard too which is the sad part . Am I making too big of a big deal out of this? Also, I am kind of concerned because I didn't come in with a passion to be an LVN. I came in because there is more job opportunities for me here than there are in my field. So far foundations of nursing and ethics haven't won me over. I'm hoping that with clinical work and as we move onto to more medical topics it will spark my passion. Not to mention I am feeling doubt because I'm afraid of how difficult the material will be. Today our instructor was scaring us about the NCLEX exam. I guess I am also kind of off put by how many people in my class are going straight onto RN school. I feel like why not give being an LVN a chance. Anyway, I am done venting now. If anyone has gone through similar feelings please let me know. I just need something to help motivate me to stay the course with this program. I really am interested in helping people, especially the elderly. I think I will enjoy providing direct care.

Southern California Thread
I thought I would start a thread to check in with LVN students and current LVN people in Southern California. I'm in Glendale and tomorrow is my second day of school. I have a quiz on Foundations that should be pretty easy. So I know it's super early on but I already have anxiety about memorizing all of the medications and diseases for the NCLEX (and class in general). Did anyone not have a hard time in LVN school? Also, I read on another post that there is a large wait time between taking the boards and receiving your license in California. Has this been everyone's experience? How is the job hunt going for the So Cal residents? Have people been able to find jobs and are you enjoying yourself?

Part time job?
Hi everyone, I just started LPN school and I'm thinking of taking a part time job as a caregiver to have something to do since class is only 4 days a week. I'm not finding anything else and wondering if anyone thinks that I pursue this or just focus on school? I know school will get a lot more intense pretty quickly and I would appreciate any advice.

Starting school and terrified
First day wasn't bad at all. It was kind of slow even which help me get over my pre-class jitters. I know it will pick up a bunch though and get more difficult but today made me happy. Our teacher certainly drilled in Foundations of Nursing into our heads, which actually wasn't that much information.

Starting school and terrified
Thanks bcskittlez. I have a few questions for you. About how many chapters were you assigned each class and how much reading did you spend every day? Did you make flash cards for the tests? How often were you tested? I guess I can get these questions answered tomorrow but I'm a ball of nerves right now.

Starting school and terrified
Well class starts tomorrow and I tried to get a head start by reading the first chapter on foundations of nursing and then quickly read intro to anatomy. Every time I start to think about school I get a sick feeling to my stomach. Hopefully it will calm down soon. I think I will do well but I'm extremely scared. The thing that is now frightening me is taking the boards next year. I don't know if I can retain a year's worth of information. Please help with any words of advice. I need prayers at this point.

Starting school and terrified
Hello, I'm starting school on Monday and I'm terrified of it being too difficult. I'm scared of the testing and difficulty of subject matter. I have a Master's Degree in gerontology but I'm scared of this. I know I'm smart. What has people's experiences been with the degree of difficulty of school?

New LPN students to start soon !! Come share your experiences :)
I start classes on Monday May 4th and I'm extremely nervous. My class schedule is 8:30-2:30 for 4 days of the week and I'll be attending CES college in Glendale (saw another person in Glendale on this post). I would appreciate any words of wisdom or advice and I had a few questions. Does anyone have a part time job while in school? I am considering getting one since classes are not like a full work schedule. Also for those who have kids, I am contemplating having my first child to coincide with the end of school. Do you think that's crazy and should I wait until I have a job? I'm really torn on this.
