  1. Hey everyone... I noticed everyone being really interested in starting a facebook page. I've been looking around to see if anyone had made one yet and couldn't find anything so I made one! The title of the group is "University of Rochester School of Nursing May2010-2011" The group is open to everyone at the moment so feel free to hop on and join! It'll be really nice to start chatting and getting to know everyone before we even start classes. If someone did manage to make a group and I just didn't find it I'm sorry and know that I won't be offended if we use one vs another or none of them at all. Good luck to everyone soldifying their plans before May! :)
  2. Congrats everyone! I'm sure you're all relieved to finally be getting some answers! May can't come soon enough right!! Nikki, you and Tiffany can add me to the list, my birthday is the week after we start ) Although who knows how much partying we'll be able to do with how busy I'm sure we'll be Good luck to anyone who's still waiting to hear!
  3. Hey Xtina and whomever else is looking, grad housing as far as I know is an option, as for craigs list you might find more openings as may approaches(but I'm more than positive you'd like another part of this process settled!). There are some apartments in the relative area, I would stick to looking in the Brighton area(there are apartments I know of on Elmwood ave down the road from the hospital, can't think of the name of the complex at the moment). There is also Henrietta, there's a complex called Rustic park...it's across the street from Monroe community college and down the road(not entirely in walking distance, maybe on a nice day). Lastly you can try and look for listings in the Park ave area, it's a very trendy part of rochester and pretty safe. That's all I've got for now, happy hunting and continued good luck for those of you still waiting to hear from admissions!
  4. Hey everyone...I've tried posting a few times, but for some reason my browser always lets me down! I had originally applied to start in January, but it looks like I'll be joining those of you that have been and will be accepted for start in May! I'm so completely excited and I absolutely can not wait for the first day of classes to roll around!!! There's so much good stuff to look forward to, it's really very exciting. I'm really glad to hear that more people are in and getting things together...I too am very nervous regarding the cost, but I figure I have to take it all in stride and the end will totally justify the means. For out-of-towners, I've been living in Rochester for the past 6 or so years, used to be a Long Island native...but I'm officially here and am more than happy to help answer questions that anyone might have. I really can't wait to meet some new faces and just dive into everything...just a few more months! For everyone else waiting to hear a final reply I wish you all good luck!
  5. I've been such a nut making sure they've gotten everything they need. I spoke with admissions recently and they said they were doing their final review of applicants these next two weeks and will send out letters after that, so we should hear in 2-3 weeks or so! Sooooo nervous, but good luck to everyone, I hope you all get good news
  6. Hey, good luck to those interviewing! I just had my interview last week (in person) and was probably more nervous going into it than anything else! I think it went pretty well, definitely the usual "why did you decide you wanted to get into this program and do the whole nurse thing?" question. Looked over a few other things and just talked out where my strengths and pitfalls were. Interviewed with a wonderful woman and definitely felt comfortable and a bit relieved when I left! Just be yourself and plan to answer some questions, and definitely ask a few....some of the answers I got were pretty interesting. Sounds like January's class is going to be small (smaller) than the one that normally starts in May, but since this will be the first one for this time frame, it's not overly surprising. I'm really excited to see where everything goes...I think I remember being told we should know by October sometime! Good luck to everyone again! Hopefully we'll all get some good news soon :)
  7. Hey all, So basically I'm having a really difficult time just figuring out where to start. I know that there aren't too many resources that really help to guide anyone looking for some insight on how to draw up a professional/personal statement for application to Nursing Programs. Here's a quick stint about myself: -Graduated with Biochem degree (not the greatest GPA, but that's too much of a story to even start on but mostly involves taking on too much without any kind of a clear goal) -Working the past 3 years as a bench scientist for a private company developing drugs for Neurovascualr diseases (stroke, alzheimers, etc) -Have been a firefighter and EMT-B in NYS for the past 5/6 years -all sorts of other experiences from teaching in the lab to police dispatching, and so on I really want to be able to express how much I really want this without sounding typical (which is generally the goal of this type of thing), but honestly, the bench is REALLY not for me, I love the research and everything that I've learned so far, but I want to be around people, and more than anything I really want to start learning again, help improve lives, and have a solid career I can continue to build on for years to come. Perhaps what I need is a swift kick in the pants...but right now I feel stuck, and I at this moment would love to be able to complete my application and get that checked off my list of things needed to do (I still have a few pre-req's to do but am on track to be done with all that before August of this year). Oh yeah, and my application deadline at this point is July 1st 2009. Any help, words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated...even just that swift kick!
