  1. Yes, the first day wasn't bad at all. It all seems pretty do-able. We'll see when I am going crazy. I am also having my first lab tomorrow though. I haven't had that yet. The lady behind me had hers and said she liked it and the instructor was very nice. Thanks for asking about my father but it was my brother. :wink2: I am old. ha ha But it was sweet of you to ask. Well, still have 35 more pages to read on Activity in Fundamentals. That chapter is taking me forever to get through!!
  2. Well, I have pretty much been having a nervous breakdown along with self doubts since I got the syllabi. Can I do this? Have I just wasted $2000? I have been freaking out to say the least. Wishing I was starting in October or January or March. Is this just me? Everytime I start to do the reading I am interrupted or something happens. My brother had a stroke last Saturday is just one of many things.
  3. Which books do you still need? Email me privately if you want to. Also, I asked earlier if anyone else filled out the form we were given for the Michigan Nurses Scholarship and if anyone had heard anything about it. I still haven't but I looked on the State of Michigan website about this scholarship and it states on the site that the schools are responsible for determining who they give these funds to based on whatever criteria they choose (i.e. financial need, grades, or how far along the person is in the program). Well, has anyone received anything from this?
  4. Yes, I sent my husband out to Binson's to get one and he came home with one that costs $40 and didn't say one way or the other if it was latex free or not. BUT went to Macomb book store and they have them there for I think it was $25.
  5. ISBN-13: 978-0-7817-7792-6 This edition just came out this month.
  6. Dang it...I just opened that Health Assessment book last night so now I can't take it back. Does is come with the Mosby's CD? Is everyone done with ACE passport? It has to be done by the 25th.
  7. The Nurse Pack contains the following: 1 Set of Sony headphones 1 Pen light and here is the "fun" stuff: 1 Foley Catheterization Tray 1 Tracheostomy Clean and Care Tray 1 Central Line Dressing Change Tray 1 Suction Catheter Kit with a whistle tip catheter, vinyl gloves, sterlile wrap and pop up cup 2 0.9% sodium chloride injection USP ( IV bag) 2 continu-flo solution set ( IV tubing?) 1 secondary medication set ( more IV stuff I think) alcohol swabsticks about 4 different hypodermic needles sterile towel drape gloves 2 sterile ABD pads extra absorbent maybe a dozen 4 X 4 gauze pads some tape some sterile water for injection 2 small items very well wrapped in bubble wrap- no idea whats in there
  8. The nurse pack was $89. If you would like to know what is in it, I can look and post that for you.
  9. Gee...I don't even remember what came when but I just got a letter last week saying that I could come and pick up the syllabi for the classes. The syllabus for 1530 was in the letter. I am ready except for finishing the ACE passport test although I have done something similar I think when I applied to Beaumont's Rad Tech program. It certainly sounds like the same modules. This is what to read for the first week of classes: 1510 Practice of Nursing Taylor Ch 1 Legal Aspects of Nursing Practice Taylor Ch 7 Gerontological Nursing Taylor Ch 20 1520 Review syllabus Read Wilson Ch 1 and skim Ch 19 Taylor pp 83-7, 505-527, 221-3 1530 Read Taylor's Clinical Skills Ch 4 Asepsis and Ch 9 Activity Read Taylor's Fundamentals Ch 27 Asepsis and Ch 39 Activity View Modules 2 Asepsis and 9 Activity
  10. Wondering if anyone else applied for that Michigan Nurse's Scholarship? And has anyone heard anything regarding it? I didn't get a thing from the Federal Financial Aid. Would be nice to get anything at all!!
  11. Oh my God!! My son picked up the syllabi for the 1500 classes for me. THERE IS OVER AN INCH HIGH STACK OF PAPERS!!!! The books were overwhelming enough but this is freaking me out!!!
  12. I got a letter today with the syllabus for 1530. Now I know where to start reading!! EVERYWHERE!! The other syllabi can be picked up too.
  13. Thanks Hoot! I certainly appreciate a head's up on anything. I wish I knew where to start reading. I am overwhelmed with all the books!!
  14. From what it says in the handbook I would assume we need to wear the scrubs to lab everyday. I am not sure about used books being left but I was just there today to pick up the nurse pack. There was no sphygomometer in it. I thought there might be. The Nursing Diagnosis book is finally in also.
  15. Did you need one for your lab coat and one for scrubs? We will only need scrubs one day a week. Oh and the nurse packs are finally for sale. I called today.
  16. okay here are the ISBN numbers on the books I got.... These first three items I got bound together and were used for $154.50 at the book store: Fundamentals of Nursing 6th Ed Taylor (hard cover) includes CD-rom ISBN-13 is 978-0-7817-8157-2 Taylor's Clinical Nursing Skills: A Nursing Process Approach 2nd Ed (soft cover)includes CD-rom ISBN-13 is 978-0-7817-7465-9 Taylor's Video Guide to Cinical Nursing Skills Student Set on CD-ROM (17 CDs) Nursing Scope &Standards of Practice ANA 2004 Ed (Used) $18.00 ISBN 1-55810-215-9 Communication in Nursing 6th Ed Julia Balzer Riley (Used) $39.75 (they put a sticker over the darn ISBN) Then I got the "Perfect Package" I described in my posting. I looked it up on amazon and to buy the three books on there it was like $2 cheaper than the book store- so hardly worth the trouble. The book I got that rang up for $20.25 ( actually a set of 2 books) are: Pharmacology and the Nursing Process 5th Ed Lilley (includes CD) ISBN 978-0-323-04486-8 Pharmacology and the Nursing Process Study Guide 5th Ed Lilley ISBN 978-0-323-04489-9 The one book we need that is a 13th Edition is not printed yet, I think. They didnt have it at the bookstore or on Amazon, so I looked it up with the publisher and it said it was to be published in August 2009.
  17. You know whats really wierd? DOTS told me on the phone it was $22 for the test and when I went in the guy said, " That will be $20." Everywhere I go, I get charged less than I am told on the phone.
  18. Here's a Littman site with heart and lung sounds to listen to. http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Littmann/stethoscope/education/heart_sounds/
  19. I ordered my stethoscope from allheart.com on the 17th and according to Fedex tracking it was delivered to the Roseville Post Office today (the 21st) and they will be delivering it on the 23rd? I thought that was kind of wierd that Fedex brought it half way and then the USPS took over. So if anyone orders anything from allheart expect it to take a week or so. I went to DOTS on Dequindre last Friday for my drug screen as someone on here recommended. It was quick and easy.
  20. Has anyone else ordered their scrubs from Dove yet? I ordered mine the 7th of July and decided to email them last night because I still hadn't received my order yet. Well, they lost my order! They billed me but never filled my order. So, I had to reorder and was promised the scrubs would be here by next Monday the 27th.
  21. It was used but looks brand new. I opened my Fundamentals of Nursing. It is the heaviest book ever made- I think the pages are made of lead. It is a used book too but is perfect. It had one wrinkled page in the front because there is a CD in there.
  22. I just looked ahead going through the books we will need for all the classes we will take over the next two years. The good and not so good news is this semester if we also include the Medical Surgical Books we need in October that cost $228 will be by far the most expensive book-wise. Oh, the Pharmacology and the Nursing Process 5th Ed by Lilley that I bought today is recommended now but required next year. I got this one today and it was wrapped with the study guide for $20.25 (so book and study guide) according to my receipt and when I just checked it on the online bookstore site, it says it is supposed to be $75 used and $90 new???? It must be scanning wrong....
  23. For cryin' out loud!! I just typed a long post about the books I got and somehow deleted it before posting it. Painful, since I am the slowest typist around! Well, heck, and I was just looking and there are three more required books I did not get. And I did not even get the ones for 1600! There are not a whole lot of the used books but the ones I got look like they have never been opened.
  24. Well, I went today and looked at the books and ended up buying most of them at the bookstore. My nephew has a gadget that he can scan the ISBN on a book and see what it is selling for on Amazon, so I did the comparisons and for the little I would have saved on Amazon, I went ahead and took the plunge and spent $368!! I did manage to get several books used (they look new) but there aren't too many used books. There was one of the 1500 books that they did not have in stock there (one that was about $118?) and they did not have the nurse packs yet BUT a nice lady told they were just delivered and would be out soon. I can type out the list of what I got with the ISBN and price at the book store if anyone would like, so you all can shop around. Oh and in case anyone is wondering what the "Perfect Package" is that it says we need on the website and sells for $115 it is a package of 3 books wrapped together and they are Davis's Drug Guide for Nurses 11th Ed by Deglin/Vallerand which includes a CD ROM, Taber's Medical Dictionary 21st Ed and Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests with Nursing Implications 3rd Ed by Van Leewen. I spoke to a young lady there who just completed the first 8 weeks and said its tough but do-able to get As. She said just to make sure we keep up on the reading assignments! She reccomended the Cardiology III stethoscope. She said with all the noise in lab to make sure you got a good one because its hard to hear. Oh, and in one of those coupon books that I got in the mail last week, there was a 20% coupon for Binsons, in case anyone else is still looking for their stethoscope. Well hope this info helps someone and if anyone would like the ISBNs on these books let me know. Several are wrapped and packaged together, so I will only open them if someone would like the ISBN.
  25. There was a special on there yesterday if you bought one of the more expensive stethoscopes ( one was $140) you would get a bonus student kit free ( $50 value ) and it had a CD in it with heart sounds which I thought might be helpful to a novice. This summer is flying by and I had hoped to do some reading ahead which hasn't happened! Well, I will be ready for a study group come August if anyone else is interested?
