I was originally an alternate and I got in for summer and so were a few others. Please keep in touch and let me know how it goes and if you do get to start for fall.

You will be taking Nur 111 and Nur 226, medical assessment. At orientation they will arrange for you to be sized and order your scrubs. Within the first 2 weeks of class you will need to purchase any stethoscope of your choice. You will also need a pair of all white leather shoes, can be sneakers or whatever you are comfortable in. I am in JSRCC's summer program right now. I would recommend you buy a 4" binder and 2 2 or 3 inch binders as well as a pack of manila folders. Nur 111 is broken up into 15 weeks and it works well if you have a manila folder with your material in it for each week. Everyone keeps all of these in their 4" binder. Get a rolling backpack because the books weigh a ton! I bought my books off Amazon for much less than in the school bookstore. You will have a pass/fail math test in the first 2 weeks on medical dosage calculations. If math isn't something that comes easy to you, buy medical dosage calculations for dummies/ or made easy and start on it now. They don't teach you how to do the calculations, they just expect you to be able to do them. Good luck! So far summer at JSRCC is going well for me

I got mine for half the price that the school book store wanted and they are in brand new condition. There are like 6 different required books and several suggested ones. The very first week you will have a medical dosage math test. You must make an 80 on it or they will put you out of the class. They give you 2 tries. I passed mine but some didn't. I suggest that you look at amazon for "medical dosage made easy" as it helped me to prepare. Someone told me about it ahead of time so I had time to look at it a few weeks before classes started. Also they recommend "test taking techniques for beginning nursing students" by nugent and vitale, 5th edition. I have my first test next thursday and I will let you know if this book really helped. You must make a 79.5 to pass the class. No extra credit.

I am also a mother of two little ones. I completed my prereqs. at J. Sarge and applied for the summer program. I start next week! The application process is confusing and I was given conflicting information about how students were ranked when they apply. Overall though my experience has been positive. I expect the summer to be insanely hard and will let you know how it goes. Good Luck with your studies!
