Nursing Assessment and Non-VIolent Restraints
Hello, I need some information from all of you for a nurse educator at my hospital. I am the medical librarian there and she asked me for information I can't find in the databases - it happens sometimes. Sometimes going right to the source is the best answer. Topic she asked about: best practice assessments on patients with non-violent restraints. Our assessments are very frequent but our travelers tell us that they have never seen this. I (the librarian) can't find any guidelines/protocols/ EBM/EVP for time frequency) so am reaching out to see what people in NYS, east coast or anywhere are doing as far as frequency. Any New York hospitals specifically but will take any responses. Please! ? I appreciate all of you reading my question and answering if you can. Deweydecimal13501 If you have anything to email me: [email protected] It will be kept confidential. The nurse educator also wanted to pass on her thanks.

Inpatient psych patients refusing to wear ID bracelets, so scanning compliance is poor - what is your practice?
Hello, I am the Library Director at my health system submitting this question for the Nurse Clinician in Psychiatric Services. She wants to know what others are doing and I figured this is one of the best places for that. I hope I can get a lot of responses. Her question is below. QUESTION: Bar-code scanning practices of ID bracelets of patients housed in inpatient psychiatric units. We are struggling with patients refusing to wear ID bracelets, so bar-code scanning compliance of ID bracelets is poor. We would like to know the practice of other Psychiatric hospitals/inpatient psychiatric units experiencing the same challenge. Thank-you in advance for any answers I receive. Deweydecimal13501 ?

NGT policies about days until removal for Neonates
I am posting for a Nursing Clinician in my hospital. She is interested in finding out about nasograstic tubes and time until removal (daily, days, weeks? other time frames?) for Neonatal patients. What do you you do? Can you please share your policy or tell us what you do. She would be very grateful I have done the literature searching (medical/nursing) and guidelines and searching for best practices. But would like to know what you are doing if possible. Thank-you so much, Deweydecimal13501

Nurse Managers - moving from 8 hour to 10 hour shifts
Hello, I am doing research for a nurse manager at my hospital. Her question is below. I have done the usual library research but would like to hear from the "field" as well. Question: Has any Nurse Manager moved from 8 hour shifts to 10 hour shifts (or longer if I get no responses at the 10 hours she requested. I found 12 hours in the literature. ). Was it successful? How did you do it? Any advice if you had to do it again? How did you prepare? Thank-you in advance, Deweydecimal13501 ??️

MEDSCAPE is free for those of you on a budget and its peer-reviewed. It has a nursing and medical section so check both out. Tripp database l(freemium ) can be searched for guidelines, systematic reviews, and other EBM information. Not all guidelines are free but it will give you the links and summary. Hope this helps. What kind of nursing delivery system are you using on your unit (team, functional, primary care, total patient care, case management, something else?)
Hello, I am asking for a Nursing Administrator at the hospital here about what kinds of nursing management models/nursing management system/model are used on your Medical-Surgical Units. Whether its: team nursing/modular nursing, total patient care nursing, primary care nursing, case management style nursing, functional nursing/progressive nursing nursing or some other system/model. If you can tell us what you are using and how that is working for you. Any information would be appreciated. We are building a new hospital here in about 3 years so are looking for something more effective (not task-oriented). Any information would be appreciated. Even anecdotal information. Thank-you in advance for your help, Deweydecimal

Hello, I am doing research for one of the Infection Control Nurses. Is anyone doing "Plastic Rounding" or "Plastic Rounds" at their hospital? This is a newly coined term in which nurses in acute care hospitals round on patients with central venous catheters, PICC lines, indwelling urinary catheters, implanted ports, etc. to identify infections. Any information would be helpful. Contact information would be great. Thank-you in advance, Deweydecimal13501

Education/certification requirements for hospital occupational health nurse?
Hello, I have a patron who wants to know what the education/certification requirements are in New York State to work as Occupational Health Nurse in a hospital. Do you have to be a NP? Do you have to have certification (COHN, COHN-S, etc.)? Specifically interested in New York State - thanks. So far I have gone to the NYS State Professional Education and NYS Nursing Boards which didn't say much and have sent a message to the NYS Occupational Health Nursing Association (waiting on a response from them). Also checked AAOHN as well and got some general information. I was hoping there was someone from NYS on here that could help me out. I would really like to help this patron out. Thank-you in advance, Deweydecimal

Denture (dental) Adhesive - provided by your hospital or not?
Hello again, Another question asked by one of the clinical nurse educators. Does your hospital provide denture (dental) adhesive for your patients that wear dentures? Why or why not? As the librarian, I am looking for articles or literature to support either way. So far I can't find much either way. Our hospital does not currently purchase. Because staff will buy it for them, there are not enough measurable outcomes. Any help would be appreciated. Thank-you in advance, Deweydecimal13501

Non-licensed staff documenting in Code Blue/Trauma Code
Does anyone have information on non-licensed staff documenting in a Code Blue or Trauma Code situation? Is it done in your hospital? Who is doing it? What type of qualifications, if any, do they have? How does it work? (supervision, training, etc.) This is for a nurse in one of the hospitals I am working at. I would appreciate any information you can give me. Thank-you in advance, Deweydecimal

Sign on room when pt dies for no more svcs. in room/ courtesy sign - do you have one?
Hello everyone, This is a request from one of the nursing administrators at the hospital where I work. I am the librarian here and am researching this for her. I really hope you all share your knowledge and information with her. I appreciate your time reading this. She would like to know: When a patient passes, a notification (sign) is put on the room to let other staff and other service providers know that services are no longer needed. This is courtesy signage. It also allows the family some time in the room. We would like to know what this signage looks like at other facilities. We did hear that one hospital used a picture of a tree. What type of signage is your facility using in this type of situation? Does it have wording on it? Would you be willing to share a picture of your sign or at least a description? Do you have a contact person we could talk to? Thank-you in advance for you help, Deweydecimal13501 (Halyna) [email protected]

heating/cooling blankets and thermal burns (NOT in surgical setting)
Hello everyone, I have a really interesting question here. I have a nurse who has asked for information about heating blankets/cooling blankets and thermal burns outside the intraoperative setting. I have done a LOT of literature searching (database searching) and found very little written. HELP! There must be more information out there about heating/cooling blankets and thermal burns and the general medical setting. Do they happen? Does anyone have information? I would be very appreciative. Thank-you in advance, Deweydecimal13501
