So we need help! The frustrations of trying to get into nursing in California are just awful! My daughter is finishing her associates degree at a local community college. She will be moving to the San Clemente/Oceanside area in the summer (her boyfriend is in the Marines stationed at Camp Pendelton). Her grades are not great and I don't think she will get accepted to a uc nursing program. So - she is looking at private nursing schools. Anyone have any input? I think there is Kaplan, National and West Coast in Anaheim. Here's another question - should she get her LVN then BSN? What about getting a CNA first? So many different routes to take - any help would be appreciated! She is so depressed from not being able to REALLY do what she wants and now feels like maybe she shouldn't go into nursing since its so hard. I know she can do it and I am really encouraging her to keep going!

I do want to thank everyone for the information on HPU. I am so lucky I found this site. My daughter (thankfully) has decided against HPU and has enrolled at California State University Channel Islands. This is a new university and new nursing program, but has state of the art sim lab and class sizes of no more than 12/1 in nursing. The director was at Mt. Saint Mary's for 30 years. It is highly competitive, but she is going to try her very best and take her chances. Her friend; however, is visiting HPU next week. She is looking thru rose colored glasses - not willing to believe your reviews and believing what the university is telling her. Again, thank you so much and best of luck to each of you in your future careers. We are forever thankful!

Wow - thanks for the advice. We live in Ventura County and she was admitted to Cal State University Channel Islands. They have a fairly new nursing program, but experiencing all the same issues as everything in Calif. She can't apply for the nursing program until after her first semester as a freshman. Thank you so much for your input. Will definately be considering it when we lay everything in front of us and make a decision.

I have been reading the thread on this topic - HPU Nursing School. My daughter is a senior in high school desiring to enter a university to obtain her BSN. She has been accepted to the nursing program at HPU (which I am beginning to see everyone is). After what I am reading here, I am getting an ill feeling about choosing HPU. We live in Southern Cal and it is so difficult to get into nursing. What are your thoughts? Go for HPU or stick it out here in Calif? She is also young, would be going there at the age of 17 - what is the on-campus housing like? Also, what has been the actual yearly cost at HPU? Thanks so much for your input.
