Thank You! Yes, I was lucky enough to get in first try. I applied for the spring semester. They picked 15 for spring and 15 for summer. I think many people don't know they split the 35 accepted applicants into the next two previous terms. Then the fill the other 15 spots when the next application opens up. I wish you good luck:)

Hi. I don't know which advisor you spoke with, but I'm concerned the information they relayed to you was inaccurate. At this point 60% of your app. is based on you GPA, 30% on your personal essays, 5% for you recommendation letters and 5% for being a N.M resident. Volunteer service is not required and is recommended so you can include medical experience in your essay. I was accepted first time with around a 3.5 overall and little higher in my science. I know the average this time was around 3.8. I would definitely recommend trying to boost you general GPA by taking a very easy course. I would apply at least once, even if you have 12 hours of pre-requisites still left. Many times they will accept you for the next semester. It never hurts to try. I do know many people with a much higher GPA then I had who were not accepted. Advisors told me they were looking for the students who stand out of the crowd based on their essays. One advisor told me, they look for students who desired to be a nurse from child or had very relevant experience. Something I really emphasized in my essays. That may have been why they picked me over others with a better GPA. In my true opinion it was lot of prayingJ I'm not sure were they are planning to go with fall 09' admissions. I might call and set up an app. With an undergraduate advisor in the school of Nursing. I would visit once each semester to make sure that I was on track. I really hope this helps. Congratulations! It's a big step to follow your dream I wish you the best of luck! I was accepted into the summer program at U.N.M, so I can only offer you advice about the program I am in. The first step is to decide what type of nursing degree you would like. A BSN, an associates, or LPN. Programs such as, C.N.M offer the associates and the LPN program. The waiting time may be long and then you have think about were you would like to go with your degree, which may take more school. If you plan to increase your salary or move or to more advanced nursing you may need a bachelors or a masters. I've heard that C.N.M offers more field experience than U.N.M. Many people may prefer that as U.N.M has classes four days a week, on top of two clinicals a week. One twelve hour shift a month along with home visits, all in the first term. The massive amounts of reading is hard to keep up. I've heard, can not verify, that C.N.M is less demanding. I know someone doing the LPN program at Pima. It cost her around 20,000. She is unhappy that she will have to renew her license and is looking into getting her BSN at U.N.M. With programs like Pima you have to consider the job opportunities and pay available, as some hospitals will not accept degrees from institutes as Pima. On the up side, their programs are fast, no waiting list. Something to think about. U.N.M is highly completive; however, I did get in first try. It's very possible. I know many people who were accepted with me in the second degree program. They only had to take a few courses, info at the website. They had positive things to say, because unlike me, they could bypass some difficult courses. Many of the required course can be taken online or at C.N.M, which is cheaper then U.N.M The program at U.N.M is very demanding, working is usually not possible for most. But, I do know many people who work part-time and go to school. The instructors are amazing, the atmosphere is wonderful; overall I'me very happy that I decided to take the risk and bet it all on U.N.M. Hi, I'm new to the site. I was looking for some help! I was accepted into the summer 09' BSN program at U.N.M. Does anyone want to sell their old books or know of anyone selling some. I know we usually keep them for the entire 4 levels, but I'm hoping someone knows something. I'm freaking out because they cost almost a thousand dollars this semester. Also, maybe someone has some more ideas about scholarships to apply for, beyond what the nursing dept. Offers. Thanks
