Is nursing a realistic career for a person with autoimmune disease?
I love this thread...I have an appt at college next monday. I am starting the path to my RN...finally!!! I am having surgery on my spine on June 1st though. I wondered if I would be albe to complete school, and then a career. I know I will. I just cant see myself doing anything else, ever. I cant believe the tremendous positive support here. I hope you find your way, I am sorry I cant give any advise. Since I too am very new to nursing. Hang in there, and I would listen to these smart caring people here.!

Back Fusion Surgery
I am a patient and a nursing student. I have had a fusion on my cervical spine last year. I am refusing the fusion option for my lumbar spine right now, because I have been accepted into a clinical trial at UCSF to recieve Prodisc replacement discs. I have a surgery date for June 1st. This is a wonderful alternitive to the fusion. I have had mutipal problems, to long to list, on my spine. I am sorry your mother has had such a terrible time. I can understand completly. Please check out this web site, it will give you great insight on alternitives to fusion. I dont know how old your mother is, but if she wishes to retain motion, and lessen her pain, this may be what she needs too. http://www.Spinesolutionsinc.com. I dont mean to be a sales person here, but it has opend so may doors for me, I cant wait untill fusion becomes a thing of the distant past. Good luck to you and your mother!

Good God....You guys make me nervous about nursing
Hi everyone, I just have to jump in here. I am 38, and finally get to take the time to enroll in to the RN program! I too have a back problem, actually having surgery on June 1st. I have been told by the nursing counselor that I would only be required to lift 20 lbs, for schooling. I realize that in the field the lift amt will change drastically. My question is, am I really wasting my time doing this? I am having a surgery to my lower spine that is not FDA approved yet. The outcome looks remarkable. Mds tell me I will be able to do 98% of a normal active lifestyle, after a 3 month recovery. Sooooo~what do you think? My Dr says go for it...my family says go for it, do you think so too?!

LVN school or not?
Hi all, this is my first post here. I am a medical asst. I have worked in an orthopedic office for 2 yrs now, and I want more!! A friend of mine said I can "challenge the board" to become an LVN. My first question is...Is this realy a good option? And, will I be looked down upon by my co-workers who have attended the riggors of schooling? Are there alot of nurses out there who have recieved their LVN this way? One more question!! I want to become an RN, where will I go from LVN to RN, how is that accomplished? Thanks in advance....Cindy
