Parkland vs JPS for ICU training
I was wondering if someone knew any info about JPS. I have heard so many things about Parkland and have applied to there residency programs however have not been called for an interview so I started to look around other places and JPS came up. Would I get the same type of experience and teaching at JPS as Parkland or is Parkland the best as far as ICU experience and teaching. I thought about Baylor but have not heard to many good things about their ICU internships. I have not heard much about JPS except that it is a level 1 Trauma in Forth Worth. I was wondering if JPS was a good hospital since I have not heard much about this place and this could be since I live closer to Dallas than Fort Worth. I know that it would probably take 1 hr to 1.5 hrs to travel to Forthworth so I am just wondering if I should apply to JPS if it is not worth the drive to get Parkland level experience. I just want to have excellent training in the ICU and Parkland seems to be the best from what I have heard but I have not had any opportunities with the ICU residencies and I want to start in ICU. Can anyone help or know where I can look up more about JPS ICU internships because their website does not go in detail about what to expect in their internships. Thanks mbrason

Time Management in the ED HELP!!!!!!
i was wondering if anyone can help me with my time management. i have finished my internship and will be on my own. during my internship i was getting very high marks from my preceptors as well from other staff rn however, my preceptor tells me that i am taking a long time in the pt room and i just cannot figure out what i am doing. she says that i am listening too much what the pt is telling me and that i just need to get the facts however i believe that some of the facts and concerns the pt are asking me are important but my preceptor said just redirect the pt to the reason why they were here and leave it at that. now that i will be on my own i have some concerns about if i will get too behind and not be able to carry the pt load by myself since i will not have my preceptor redirecting me or telling me to go do this and that. i do feel that i understand the flow of things but i am just slow in their eyes. my preceptor is very helpful and just tells me that in time i will get better. it has only been 16 weeks but now that i will be on my own i am a bit nervous but am hopeful and up to the challenge. thus far i will say that i am learning a lot and have enjoyed my experiences. this is my only big concern at this time. how long did any of you finally get your time management down? also please give me any pointers. thanks in advance:)

ER to ICU
I was wondering has anyone started in ER and then went to ICU. It appears that I will not get my dream job and start my career as an ICU RN. However, I have an opportunity to start in the ER at a hospital that I am not really familiar with. I thought that at least I could have ER experience under my belt then try ICU which is where my heart really is. It seems that most people have gone the ICU to ER route but I know floor nursing is not what I want and I know eventually after getting ICU experience I would move to the ER. I have even thought to get ER experience then go to tele or step down and then ICU if I am not accept by ICU coming from ER. I just wanted to know what any of you ICU RN's thought. Is my plan ridiculous? I have even thought about not accepting this position and try to work at the hospital of my choice in a med surg unit and then work my way to ICU then ER or just sit out for 6 months until the next internships but have been told I should just take the ER position and then work my way to where I want to think. Again takers on this route?

Presby Dallas ER
Hello, I was wondering if anyone can tell me about Presby Dallas' ER. I am considering an internship position here but do not really know much about their ER. I know everyone is probably thinking then why did you apply. Well like most new grads, I applied everywhere and did not expect to get choosen since their were very limited spots available. I was wondering if anyone went threw their internship and what were your thoughts. I wanted to know if they did computer charting or paper charting. Also wanted to know as a new grad would you get a good foundation. I really had my heart set on one of the level 1 facilities but I did not get any offers so I am now trying to get some info before I decide what I will do. I also wanted to know if the weekend differentials stacked. I was told by a classmate that they did not stack their 3-11, 11-7 and weekend diff's together and that if you worked weekends you only got your base + the weekend diff. Not sure if this classmate had facts or was just making this up because it seems hard to believe. The only thing that I have heard is thaTHR is a good company to work for but that's about it. The only other option which I have been told is crazy is to apply at the two level one facilities that I really wanted as a RN1 on a medsurg floor and then try to work my way up. I do not really want to do this but I am not sure if Presby would give me a good foundation as a GN. The facility looked nice and the RN's their were really nice and made me feel welcomed. I have been told that it would not be a bad choice but I have not gotten any real feed back so I am hoping someone here will be able to tell me more about this facility. Thanks, mbrason
