When you say even they can make errors, I assume that those mistakes come from something else rather than their skills, right? For the NCLEX, I bought Saunder book. I hear many positive comments about it. YOu are right that I worry too soon about the NCLEX. I don't have any knowledge about LVN skills or critical thinking yet. I think I can only read the answers rather than think of solutions for the questions.

From what you say, it seems like the malpractice is about the attitude of the nurse rather than her skills. If I study well in school and do well clinically, I should be able to know what to do with this patient, right? By the way, I'm previewing the NCLEX-PN. I think it will help me before and after I graduate the LVN program. Do you think that being knowledgable about NCLEX-PN can help me in my job later on?

By the way, since we're only LVN, and we don't do IV (unless we have certification), what kind of malpractice can we do? LVNs are not assistants, but they do their job under a physician or an RN's supervision. Isn't our work checked before it's passed to patients?

Well, I'm taking prerequisites for LVN in Merritt College (Oakland, CA). I don't see anywhere stating that I need to be certified in CPR to be an eligible applicant. Same thing with Los Medanos college (Pittsburg, CA). However, City College of San Francisco requires it. I don't know why there is such a difference. Anyway, I'm not in the program now. When I'm in it, perhaps I will know whether I need it or not. By the way, do you think it will do me good if I take a first responder course instead of only CPR. My school, Chabot college, has a short 3-week CPR class and a semester-long class First Responder. Both will result in students getting CPR card from AHA. Thank you!

In your schools, does the LVN program require students to be certified in CPR? I rarely see any vocational nursing program in a community college requires students to hold a CPR card. RN always does. Why is that? Do you think that is the reason why we are usually put in long term care over other areas? Is there any LVN who works in ER?

I'm taking prerequisites for the LVN program in Merritt college in Oakland, CA. The college I'm attending, Chabot College, offers has a sister college, Las Positas college that has Surgical Technology (3 semesters in length). Ohlone college, pretty close to Chabot, has Phlebotomy program with only one-semester length. With my GPA, it should be easy for me to be accepted in these programs. Since I'm going to stick with LVN, I know that there are some limitations. However, I don't plan to continue with RN. Do you think that I can have a better chance to be hired if I can expand my skills besides bedside care? Should I get those extra certifications before I officially get in LVN, or should I only concentrate on LVN? I'm willing to listen to any advice you offer. Thank you!

Please help me understand how nurses can do the job of a respiratory therapist! Maybe they can do some, but can't be substitutes, right? I mean we have our own roles, and they have theirs. We are versatile in many aspects of patient care, but we still have some limitations, don't we?

I'm taking Anatomy and Physiology. Hopefully, I can be accepted into LVN program in my college. I first chose Radiologic Technology then I heard many negative comments about that field, even for experienced workers. I think that Vocational Nursing is a right choice for me. I believe that no matter how technology changes, patient care needs physicians and nurses. Nurses cannot be dispensible for machines like radiographers. By the way, the college I attend for LVN is Merritt college in Oakland, CA. Is there any body who used to be nursing students there? My another concern is when I should start preparing for NCLEX-PN. Unlike RN program, LVN program in my college doesn't have NCLEX-PN review, at least I have yet heard about it. Can someone give me some insights? THank you!
