Hi. we all know the medications we give in HD tx. also i definitely know what they're for. but i'd like to be able to explain to patients in detailed what they're really for. for some they get contented with, "epogen is to help maintain your red blood cell count within normal range and also to prevent anemia. zemplar is for your bones to help keep them strong, venofer is your iron to help with your iron deficiency anemia." but some patients ask in detailed. can u please help??? like they would go, "but whats the connection of my diabetes/ HPN with my bones?? and why do i have iron deficiency anemia?":confused: so yeah i need help with a thorough explanation on these drugs: epogen, zemplar, venofer, carnitor THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Thank you. The interview is tomorrow and I feel like I still haven't prepared well enough. I'm lacking resources. We are in the middle of moving and I can't keep focus. I was only able to study the laws and policies that was mentioned here and have no idea on where to find other helpful info. Their website wasn't helpful. :redpinkhe =( Also in their recent certified application (which they said to bring with me at the interview), there's a column thats says valid california credentials. I'm a new grad with my BSN, but is this like a postbaccalaureate program with required units that is designed for School nurses??

congrats on getting the job frozenocean! is there any book i could read other than "School of nursing" by Janice Selekman? I can't seem to find it anywhere =( Any website perhaps? Also, I read in your other post that you picked up a few textbooks to help you with legal issues, first aid, etc?

I went back on the posting and this is what it read: "Under the supervision of the Director of Pupil Services and Superintendent, the nurse shall organize, implement and evaluate the health service program to strengthen the educational process through improvement of the health status and knowledge of children. The Nurse shall work with other District employees and parents in creating an overall work environment conducive to appropriate learning. " Since they have mentioned these duties, is there any more you could add? =s Thanks again!!

I have an interview on Monday for a district nurse position. I am so pumped to have heard from them but they were interviewing several people on the same day. Tough competition out there but I wanted to make sure I get the job so putting my all on this. I've been looking for a job for months now and I'm so thrilled for even getting a response from them! I'm a new grad and I don't know what to expect! I've read about District Nurses's duties but I wanted to hear from someone with the experience! Any advice on the interview on possible questions?? WOW!! When I see ads about small surgery clinics looking for RN's, they're always looking for minimum one year experience! I'll be SO thrilled to work in one! You're really lucky you snagged the job hun ^_^ for me it's like doing two things i LOVE at the same time! lol. don't get me wrong though, i've NEVER had myself done and i don't think i ever will in the future. lol. good luck sweets and i wish you all the best! i'm a new grad too by the way. with this economy, i would take whatever it is in the table. after several months of looking for a job, i finally founded one. not the best nor the one i really wanted, but it gives me the experience too. maybe even better than a hospital experience because it gives me a better chance to do so much more hands-on. i'm talking about one on one care, home health nursing and i love my agency :) they also let me do home visits but they give me materials to study and we also underwent training first before they let us on the job. good luck to all new grads! there's always hope. it may not always be what we want the first time, but it will give us the experience. our time will come =]

Thank you all so much for the input. They are exactly what I needed to hear. Littlemissfirecracker, I feel a little relieved that I'm not the first one to start on HH with very little hands-on knowledge. I've only done a few during clinicals but even though I'm a new grad I'm confident that I know at least some of the basics.. trach care, suctioning, g/j feedings, meds, CPT, etc. I knew this would be something that I'll be doing a lot whatever clinical setting, so I studied them carefully and even watched tons of videos on them. I'm an old grad, [that's how tough the job market is] so I made sure everything was still fresh in my mind. I'm really nervous but I'm glad that I'll be able to do these procedures without so much pressure or having to worry about getting other things done. iluveivt, i do have all the contact numbers i need and i now know what the diagnosis was. the nurse who oriented me was very supportive and told me all the possibilities. There are many other nurses who do different shifts all throughout the rest of the week and we do have a chart with all the nursing notes. I was also told about the old meds the patient is taking, as well as the new ones used to control the seizures. All the nurses are also given instructions on black and white regarding which specific care to provide, and I like that even the time is provided for us. arwenevestar, thank you so much for the input! the nurse who oriented me showed me the patients careplan which i do believe will help me a lot throughout the process! caliotter3, thank you so much for the support. Unfortunately, i was told that it's best not to bring anything that will distract us from giving proper care, but I was really hoping I could bring a laptop for reference whenever i need it. also, i understand my sister doesn't have a business being there, but she was correct on giving her opinions. She just needed to use the bathroom and it was within the patients room and of course I had their persmission. I will start tomorrow morning instead of tonight. I'm still very nervous but at the same time excited :) Wish me luck :)

Hi. I'm a new grad RN and was recently hired by a HH care agency. I don't have any background info about them and I've posted once here on the forum if anyone knew about them but I still haven't gotten any response. I will start working tomorrow with only 2hours orientation then I'm on my own the patient is on j-tube, trach and catheter and is not really coherent and unresponsive. I failed to ask the family what the diagnosis was. I haven't seen the records yet. When I first went for an initial interview, my sister went with me and she saw the patient. She's an RN for over 20 years now and she didn't agree for me to be working on such case, especially as a new grad. Last night, the family called to tell me that they brought the patient to the ER because of an increase in BP, and a seizure. Is this case okay for a new grad? I've never done HH before, I'm just desperate to snag a job.. I've been looking for one for almost a year now:crying2: Any advice if I should go for it

Just wondering if anyone has ever been with Noble Home Care? Just wondering as to what this home health care agency really is, what they do and if anyone has ever had problems with them? I would really appreciate a feedback! hanks in advance!

I'm a new grad and I'm not certain about what to expect regarding RN duties and responsibilities on a SNF. I have read a few things about the nursing care provided but it's still a blur for me. Examples of skilled nursing care are: administration of intravenous medication, injections, tube feeding, oxygen to help you breathe, and changing sterile dressings on a wound., colostomy, bladder catheters, foley cath insertion ..Am i missing anything else? I have a job interview coming up and I really want this job. Also, what questions can I expect on the interview? Will there be situational questions like a patient scenario? Thanks so much in advance and I hope to hear from anyone who have worked or is currently working on a SNF!

i'm in the worst boat i'm a foreign 07 grad. i passed my nclex last august 09 and i am still jobless. i think depression is getting to me. it's sucks having to stay home all the time, and have these "households chores and driving" all for me since i'm the only one who has the time for it. i tried every single facility there is.. nursing homes, SNF, rehab, hospitals, home care. but i can't even get close to an interview! i would follow-up with them every week but it's not working =( i seriously do not know what to do any longer

yeap. rejection letters came out today alright. got one too.

Cmon Sharp give us that call already! lol. hmm.. just a thought, aren't they supposed to be making calls til only this week? i believe that if we don't hear from them this week then we would have to try our luck next time still hoping for a miracle.

for the program correct? so i guess sharp has been already making the calls from experience with the September 09 program, they didn't make calls altogether. and you are right, they do start with certain units first. mind if we ask which units were they? i applied for med-surg and telemetry...
